: ZF5 case options?

I recently found a ZF5 trans for free and wanted to mate a D300 to it. Thing is I could not find a local machine shop who would turn and respline the output to match the 300. My question is what case would work with this tranny? I have a 5.0 in my YJ with a T5 and HAVE to get rid of the T5! The original Borg warner case used was just too damn big for my short rig. I was looking at a 205 but the ford one I found is a drivers side but my D60 front is passenger side. Not much luck finding a Chev 205 either. Any other options?

Thanks

There is an adapter for the ZF to be mated to a Dana 20 transfer out of a early Bronco. I recently swapped one into my EB.

Why not mate a NP203 front half and then a NP205 to get a double reduction transfer case - bulletproof. You know there's a big block (460 and diesel) and small block (351) ZF5, don't you?

I have the "small" ZF5. Will bolt right to my 302. I may go the 203/205 way. I was trying to avoid buying any adapters. By the time they arrive in here in Canada the price is easily double what it is in the US. So the adapter for the D20 becomes VERY expensive. Besides. I have always built my own adapters. Building is half the "fun".

Thanks for the ideas.

I can understand the expense issue.

I have thought about the 203 range box option but I think the overall length with it and the ZF is a bit long. In my setup the two would have ya down close to the 20" range on the rear driveshaft. I suppose you could either move the engine forward or relocate the rear axle further back but not in the works for me right now.

I do like the ZF for the OD option but for a pure trail rig one of the 4 speed options might be better. They would also leave enough room to add the 203 option and still be good on rear driveshaft length. Road shotgun in a rig setup exactly like this last weekend, it was real nice on the trail.

WIth the length issue I'm having to look at Terra Low or JP gears for the TC to get the gearing down.

I hope you find your solution.
