I have a TBI 350 in my D50 4x4 pickup. Been running the TBI for about 2 years. Last week it starts acting weird in the morning. One morning it will start normal then another it will start then die or idles really rough. I know when it acts like this it is running really rich by the amount of black smoke coming out of the exhaust. I can keep it running with throttle. If I turn the engine off and cycle the ignition then re-start it, it then starts normal, revs up and then settles down to a high idle. This only occurs on the first start of the day. Once it warms up it runs great. Any ideas or similar problems?

to test for it. Jump the connector on the OBD1 pins (the two on the bottom right) and turn the key to ON but not run position. You should hear the IACV closing on the throttle body. put your finger in there and make sure its closed. then remove the jumper and cycle the key (again not to run just ON) and the pin should retract

Mine used to do this very thing. It was caused by a vacuum leak. Check all your hoses for cracks or slits.

first, if there is a ses code, get that.
second, if none of that other stuff works, take off your throttle position sensor and hook up an ohm meter to it and confirm it is working.
