hi i have a 2wd C6 transmission and i want to convert it to a 4x4. i have a np205 transfer case and need to know if there is different shaft lengths for different transfer cases or what exactly i need to buy to make this configuration work. thanks.

dont quote me on this but i'm pretty sure you just need the 4x4 adapter in between the case and the tranny.
someone correct me please if i'm wrong.

you just need to locate an adapter and output shaft from a C6 with a 205. You can use an adapter and shaft from a BW equippied C6 but I think you have to notch the adapter to work with the 205 shift linkage. The easiest way to tell what you are looking at is the 205 adapter is cast iron, the BW adapter is aluminum. I beleive the lengths are all the same and used a 31 spline output shaft.

I believe there were two different length adapters used, in most cases you'll want the longer one that came factory with a 205, a shorter one was used with the 203 and will work with the 205 but may cause some driveshaft clearance issues depending on the exact setup. You need to change the tailshaft in the trans to a 4wd version that is the correct length for the adapter that you are using. FWIW the tailshaft comes out the front of the trans and requires disassembly of the trans to change.
Big block 4wd c-6s are pretty easy to come by around here, small block and FE versions are a bit tougher, I see BB stuff on local forums all the time for 100-300$ trans and t-case complete w/ adapter, small block stuff brings a little more and takes a bit more looking. Sometimes it's easier to find a 2wd small block trans and then get a BB 4wd version for parts to convert it.
