Next year I'm planning on taking a three week vacation all at once. My good friend and I would like to plan a road trip to CO or Utah around the end of September. Our wives will be going as well.

I have a lifted and locked XJ and he has a TJ he's working on atm.

I would like some good suggestions on where to go to make a good trip where we can combine some medium wheeling/trail-riding and some other things to do along the way. I seriously have no clue where to go.

I'm from Central IL so you know what I see all summer,,, corn. I want to experience the mountains.

Thanks

Sounds like a GREAT vacation ... if I had three weeks in a row and i lived in Illinois, I'd plan a trip west on 70 through Glenwood Canyon, and head straight to the Southeast corner of Utah. Start with the Hole-in-the-Rock Trail and then work your way north to Moab, referencing the Charles Wells book the whole way (planning ahead on big trips can be a big part of the fun of these big trips! start here: http://www.4x4now.com/mu4wd.htm). There's enough 'wheeling along Highway 191 up through and including Moab to keep you busy for a lifetime, but if you tire of red rocks, you can head east in the direction of home and hit Grand Junction and/or Montrose, before heading further east to work the spine of the Rockies bagging high mountain passes, or Southeast toward Durango and the San Juans.

This sounds like a great trip -- post pics!

Thanks for that link. It shows trails in the area and also how they are rated. Perfect.
Any other suggestions are very welcome.
