: Strange 4-cyl YJ problem...

My YJ has a peculiar stalling problem. If there's less than half a tank of gas, it will stall on left turns and also coming down steep hills with a stop sign at the bottom.

The previous owner replaced the gas tank, and I've replaced the fuel pump, strainer, and filter. Any ideas? I've asked two different parts stores, and a guy at each had the same problem with a car they had owned but never solved it. I've checked the gas gauge and it is accurate. Thanks for any help,

Brian

most likely you have a free-flow tank-no foam orcompartments.it isn't really a problem,it is anoying though.

If you swap in a newer 20 gallon plastic tank, they have a bigger sump area with higher sides. You can usually find them used at junk yard for about $50-$75 with the sending unit brackets. All of your stuff will swap right onto the newer larger, better designed tank. It could solve your problem, and will give you 5 more gallon capacity.
