The why is to get enough air flow through the motor. AFAIK the biggest propane carb out there is the 425 and it flows a little under 600 CFM if I remember right, and I think it depends on the base you use. Most conversions on big blocks use two carbs and I think two converters.

Don't know if this is any help or not, but here is a pic of a guy running dual propane.

I use a single Impco 425 mixer which is good to handle up to about a 375 hp motor. It's the biggest mixer that I found that still has an idle circuit. I use this on a 420 c.i. small block chevy with a mild cam and 10.3 to 1 compression. It works very good for what I do with it.

To flow more propane and air you'll need two mixers, two regulators, a dual quad manifold(single plane works best for propane), Split the main propane hose with a "Y" fitting to each regulator and setup the linkage so both mixers come on at the same time(don't try to make it a progressive linkage).

And use a Huge tank:D

I was just looking at a LP site and they offered a baseplate that would allow you to run two mixers on a single carb intake.

A single 425 is not up to snuff for a 454 from what I understand. My uncle worked for aplace that had LP 454 tow rigs and they all ran dual carbs.

Don't mount the regulator on it's back, like in that photo above. It needs to be mounted so the vapor port to the mixer is on the bottom or water will accumulate in the regulator.

lol sounds like your just trying to fawk up a good thing. if you just what to poor fuel in there stick to that gas carb and keep her wound up:rolleyes: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

A friend of mine runs 2 Impco 300A mixers, both hang upside down (hood-clearance) on either end of a T (made by Impco), which sits on top of a 4bbl carb on a 318. Overkill imho, i only run one 300 on top of a #1406 edelbrock carb, also on a mildly hopped up 318. If I absolutely need those few extra horses, i just switch over to gasoline. Only problem with gas are the sometimes steep angles confusing the carb floats.
