I just aquired a 1984 Nissan Ext Cab pick-up. It has that 4 cylinder motor with 8 spark plugs, if I do a SAS should I use the stock motor or something else?

With the right gear reduction a 100 hp motor is plenty strong enough for rock crawling or general trail use. Mudbogging however will require a high horsepower and high torque motor. I've broken plenty of Dana 44 shafts with mine. You may run into issues with the carb as they do not work well at steep angles. If I were you I'd switch that motor over to propane. The kit costs around 850 bucks and the weber carb conversion plate goes for $30.00. With a little bit of fab work you and install the samurai t-case 5-1 gears and a chevy Dana 44 or 60. Ask about this on roninwheelers.com.

If you decided to swap to a bigger motor you midas well swap the trans and case too. I'd go propane over efi its just simpler and there is less shit that can fail, no other reason. The motor is a Z2.4 I think. I had one years ago, but I still couldn't tell ya if the plugs spark together or if one sparks on the exhaust stroke.

If you wanted to wait on the propane you could put a inline adjustable fuel regulator in between the pump and carb and set the fuel bowl low. I've heard that works pretty good, at lest on webers.

I just wasn't sure if I would be able to adapt a transmission and/or t-case to the motor. I would just be stroked to have a ext cab, it would be a upgrade from my standard cab toy! As for the propane, how does that do as far as length wise? I mean how far does a tank really go?:smokin:

His pre 86.5 is not A TBI motor it's carb powered. The exhaust plug firs a millisecond after the ignition plug. It was done to help burn off any extra fuel (emissions).

You probably could install a post 86.5 tranny on that older motor. The post 86.5 has a chain driven t-case so I wouldn't reccomend using it. The pre 86.5 truck uses a divorced gear driven unit. I would toss that divorced case and mount a divorced Sammy case. It's all just my opinion but I've researched the he'll outta this junk and I'd encourage you to do the same.

Oh go to gotpropane.com it will have a little more info. You could also assemble your own kit. Nissan used that motor in forklifts from 1990 to 1993 or something like that.

Thanks for all the info. I checked out that nissan site you told me about and it was bitchin! I am starting out with a two wheel drive. Is there anyone who would make pre runner suspension for the 2wd? Where would be a great place to get body parts, such as: Front fenders and grille?:D

No, the suspension from a 720 to a D21 is completely different.

....back in the day... Jim Connor racing was the place for aftermarket 720 suspension... UCA's, Torsion bars... they still exist, but sell hub caps and t-shirts for Ford trucks (wth?)... so NO, I don't know where to find pre-runner stuff for a 25 year old truck.
