Can anyone point me in the right direction to find the Big four mine trail from Paniment springs resort. Going up there in a couple a weeks and would like to check it out.

Head east out of Panamint Springs. About 1/4mi after you leave the lakebed there is a dirt road on the left (and right, but go left). Follow it about a mile past the last bit of Lake Hill until it turns right up a canyon. Drive as far as you can and walk the rest.

Leave it like you found it. ;)

When are you going to be there ? I may be up there "in a couple a weeks" myself.

Nov 13-15th is the Panamint Valley Days courtesy of Cal4wd association. They always have a run to the Big four one of the days.

That road can be really dusty sometimes. I got lucky the last time I led it, it rained that morning. We had mud instead of dust!! Always cool in the desert :smokin:

Somewhere up on the mountain (Towne Peak) to the right as you drive in, is the remains of a plane that crashed decades ago.

It's an SA 16 Albatros. I borrowed this picture and link to a report about the hike.

BTW - Sunday Nov 15th, I'm leading a hike up the falls in Surprise Canyon as part of Panamint Valley Days (http://www.cal4wheel.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=63&Itemid=91).

It's not as good a driving but a lot of people haven't seen the Canyon before.

I'll be leading the Friday run to the Big Four for PVD this year.

This pic is about the best/worst of it:

We pre-ran Big Four on Friday. All the fill in the pic above is gone, so this year should be a bit more fun than last year.
