I just picked up my copy of Four Wheeler. Looks like you all had a great time but i was wondering who won the Detroit Electrac? What applications is it avaible for, how does it work and how much did they say its gonna cost? thanks.

I guess I did. Funny I had to get the magazine to find out what I won. I don't know anything about the Electracs - I even looked on their web, but they are not listed. Of all the things I won, the only thing I really wanted was the Leatherman tool (not to be confused with the Chinaman :D) which was just handed out to everyone. But I lost it at ttc :( . I still have the Leatherman case though :) .

Hey JR, I wound up with two leathermans, wanna trade for the Electrac?:flipoff2:

So mrtwstr has JR's leatherman :D , and I never found a spare set of gloves.

I still haven't gotten my prize for dying on the tank trap either. At least that's what I think I won it for.

So for the 5 months of work it took to get the truck ready, the 7000km's I drove and the week of hell putting up with my fellow competitors, I ended up with a magazine, some gloves and a leatherman.

Good deal! :D

Who belongs to the Unimog Absleppwagen (416 DoKa tow truck) that was pulling Rob's blazer out of the Mini Rubicon? That was a riot to see it with the original logos from Germany. Pretty darn capable wrecker too.

Just curious and wanted to know the story behind it.

I dont know who owns the mog tow truck ,but when he tried to lift Robs Blazer off the ground the front end of the mog was in the air, He just let it down allitle and crawled out with it.

Don't have the details, but if memory serves he was a local who volunteered his services to get in and watch. Glad he did. He didn't stick around for a cold one after the tow back into camp, either. I forgot about his front end lifting! That's right. Still haven't seen the magazine article, but it was rather precarious with the back hoe lifting the front end of the Blazer out of the rocks. Good thing I knew the operator, he had come to play on the Island once before.

I had to phone the magazine a couple times (Tim, if you haven't got a phone number, contact me and I'll send it to you) to get my prize.

I'm not sure who he was either but when he was lifting up the blazer it spewed a stream of hydraulic fluid straight out the passenger side all over some guy standing there helping.... wrong place, wrong time:mad:

I'm still chuckling about that shot of Jack covered with mud. I saw that and it looked like "Ohhhh god I'm dieing....Ohhh camera I better smile and pretend like I'm just taking a little break" look LOL.
I got to talk to Jack Monday. SUPER nice guy! It was really great doing buisness with a guy like that. He and Stephen Watson are both super great to deal with and both make you happy you spend your cash with them. Wish more buisness were run by people like them.
Congrats again JR on the win. Hell congrats everybody for trying like you all did and busting up your stuff up and giving us a good show.

I still think the best time was partying with the Canadians and then stalking the pigs with one of Ryeguys crew members. I don't really remember the end of the night or even going to bed. But i'll remember chasing those fawking pigs for years.

By the way Ryeguy where do you want me to send your ram. I tried e-mailing you throught BC but it keeps coming back.

Any truth to the rumor that someone finally managed to snag one of the pigs and trapped it in the shower over night?

Yeah, what sucks is that it was only Toby (guy on the front of this months 4wheeler cover) that found it. He's pretty hard to suprise. I wished it could have at least caused some excitement.:D :D :D

The last night was a hell of a lot of fun.
Just a disclaimer. The next morning I had to do an interview for the vidio. I hope they don't use any of it though!

I just picked up my copy of the mag like 2 days ago and was reading it... I must say that the stories you guys posted were much more interesting than the stuff they wrote in the magazine. Like there was hardly a mention of Wolf359 busting his tranny in half and then repairing it with what, a tow strap and a 2 by 4? Stuff like that... They had decent pics, but the stories were seriously lacking... But, you guys look like you had a helluva time, and congrats to everyone who made it!!

edit: actually, i just reread the tank trap part, and there was a small little bit in the notes section about it... but still, there needed to be more in there about damage, etc in general...

I know what you mean. Not that I was disappointed in the mag, it's cool to see your truck in there, but there was a lot that went on that didn't make it. I guess they don't have the space for more.

I went and grabbed the TTC mag from last year and the format and layout of the contest is almost identical. Every year the actual article is more of trying to tell people what's going on and describing each event than what actually happened.

Here's some observations I posted on my home board after the comp:

1. John Reynolds, in front of me on the trail doing 10 miles per hour and spinning around IN THE TRAIL and coming back past us with a smile on his face. Full hydro rear steer, full hydro front steer. We tried turning around in the same place and it took me 3 backups and three gear changes. Sheesh.

2. Toby Lavender backing ALL the way up the Raptor in camp after the competition was over. Top of the Raptor is 7 feet in the air, and Toby's tire was on the top of his cage. Front tires were on the ground.

3. An unnamed judge going up...up..up and over the Raptor on the Mini Rubicon without spilling a drop of his pop on the way over. All the fellow competitors and judges tipped him back over and he continued merrily along again.

4. Jumping out of the back of Jim Piatt's truck about a minute before he flopped it on it's side in the rubicon. Poor Jim is in a club and has to run his sticker upside down now for a YEAR. Seems that's the penalty for flopping your truck.

5. Cory and Ryeguy having a tug of war in camp on Thursday night after the competition and with the judges and competitors all cheering them on, pulling to a pretty fair tie. (ok, 1 foot over the line for the Hulk) result: Broken 35 spline axle on the Chevy, and some badly bent links on the Hulk.

6. Toby's face when he opened the shower on Friday morning and found a pig in the stall, compliments of the Vancouver boys.

7. John (Bronco) and Barry (Frog) both looking like they just finished a fine 18 holes at the country club each morning, while the rest of us stumbled out of our campers in our clothes from three days before, covered in mud and poison oak.

8. Toby's 11 year old kid coming up swinging after "someone" tipped his chair over by the fire. Don't mess with Texas.

9. Me, while doing the interview after each competition, trying desperately to not talk with a Texas accent after being around Toby and Matt all week. It seems that Texan's are just excited Canadians.

10. Toby and Matt saying "what y'all doing, Eh?" by the end of the week.

Now that the magazine is out, I would not mind doing a story on ttc. My nephew, Matt (c104) made a great DVD of ttc. He is a busy guy. Maybe we can get him to make a few copys at around cost to our friends on the board. :)

I would sure be interested in a DVD.

Also, I thought the story in the magazine sucked. They hardly explained anything. It just seems like people would be left wondering what happened. An example would be Abba on the hill climb- last place, over a minute off the ideal time. No mention of why, wouldn't you be curious?

Fine example, their story does suck, holes all over it and if they really wanted to make it a big deal they would ante up and make a "special issue" with enough pages to do a real story

Well, I saw last year's. They come on two tapes, which gets expensive. Was OK, but kinda like the mag coverage. Leaves alot to be desired. I'd much rather have a personally made vid like the DVD mentioned. Probably will have more coverage of what an ethusiest wants to see anyway. Just my $.02.

I would like to offer the TTC participants a copy of the DVD I created. It's not of the complete event and everyone doesn't get coverage on each event, but it's worth a watch. I was only there one day. I have coverage of acc/brake test, pull-off, frame-twister, mudpit and mini-rubicon.

JR, can you send me the TTC boys' addresses?
We'll figure out expenses later.

Please check your DVD compatibility here for your set-top DVD player.

If your DVD isn't on the list and/or it's over 2 years old, don't waste your time.

The tapes from the magazine kicked ass in 2000 (also 2 tapes). The director from 2000 took the year off for 2001. Thats why the tapes sucked. The same director from 2000 came back to direct and produce the 2002 TTC tapes. I haven't ordered the tapes yet, but I am definetly going to buy them this yearand hope they are as good as 2000.
