I have just a couple quick questions that will be answered on there own if I proceede with my new project. However, wanted to ask now to get my mind rolling with what will need to take place on the build...

Live in Michigan and rust has killed my 85 k10 LB. Im tearing off the cab and box. Found a guy with a 87 crewcab cab for sale near me. Not perfect, but good enough for wheelin. Im planning on putting the crew cab on my k10 and fabing up a small tube bed like some of the other guys on here are runnin. Searched for a simmilar build, but most the crew cab builds started as crew cabs, or are cut up burbs.

So are crew cab frames different in anyway other than longer? How are the body mounts in relation the truck mounts? I assume the front b-mounts will be the same and some rear custom mounts will need to be fabbed?

Like I said, once I get the cab here I will figure this stuff out, but just wanted some insight on what Im in for. Like to know what parts and metal ill need ahead of time...flame on

MTMike and Philadelphia have also done similar projects.

Yeah ive done it but if you can get a crew frame use it..I went back and forth between a ghetto assed body lift and cutting the floor..Cutting the floor gave me an excuse to be able to buy a sheet metal brake so thats what i did..My pics are crappy but i used a peice of c channel for the rear cab mounts..The middle cab mounts need to be fabbed up.My carrier bearing mount was too high to make a storage compartment so i dropped it with some c channel..You dont have to chop out all the floor like i did but two slots would work like maters build.I plan on building a small storage box there for my truck.

Its a lot of work..For me i had the truck already and got the cab..Im running 3x4 3/16" rails from about the end of the cab to the back end..Still have to do shock mounts, limit strap mounts, fuel tank mounts and rear recovery and suckdown winch mounts..

At least with a crew frame you dont have to chop the floor and fab mounts.

Personally I would use the CC frame if you can get it too. I would much rather move around leaf hangers than screw with body mounts, but that may just be me.
That and the CC frames are actually thicker.
