It doesn't take much to turn my crank anymore I think I'm getting low on compression. I was up there a couple of weeks ago and got excited about driving in a snowstorm, that doesn't happen down here much.
Glad to hear about the AP customers in Montana, It would be cool to do an event or something up there next summer.

AP NW sounds real good to me.

Lakeside is on hwy 93 N on the westside of Flathead lake. It's actually a killer trail, just not JV. As far as fishing goes, there's some excellent fishin' up here. Macks, whitefish, sturgeon, and pike...just to name a few. I'd love to wheel with Ya'll, c'mon! Just pm any fool on here with MT in the username and You'll find us!

No, after driving it for several years I finally sold it to a friend of mine and built a FJ40. It doesn't crawl quite as good as Truggy but it's a lot better all around (more power). It's got 39 Krawlers with 60's and an Atlas.

I have personally heard comments from wheelers that have "been around" and all have good things to say about this trail system. Criticism seems a bit sourcastic from somebody who hasn't really wheeled it in the last 2-3 years.

Everybody has their own opinion on what trails they like/disslike. We can use Pritchett Canyon for example, scares the hell out of you but, I loved it. My point being is that everbody has their own "G" spot if you will. The Blacktail Wild Bill Trail System may not be everybody's "G" spot but for anybody that is into wheeling at all will have some sort of appriciation for the thought and hard work by all that contributed to this trail system. On that note you are welcome to come up and help this summer on trail work, maybe help design something that will "turn cranks" ? ? :)

Josh

There are by-passes around most of the obstacles. Some would be fairly tight for a full size stocker. They are made mostly for 4-wheelers. I would wait for spring and try it on dry ground first.

Yes, We gpsed the entire trail system last year for the forest service. Now we are working on gps cords. for each major obsticle. Hopefully we will get a map out by spring/summer.

Thanks for the invite, looking forward to next summer.

Keep us posted for the dates--if you want to fish some rivers, I'm always up for a summer raft trip.

No, after driving it for several years I finally sold it to a friend of mine and built a FJ40. It doesn't crawl quite as good as Truggy but it's a lot better all around (more power). It's got 39 Krawlers with 60's and an Atlas.

You could do every obstacle on this trail and have a lot of fun. You could do 98% of the obstacles on this trail if you didn't worry about body damage--or don't like to do multi-point turns!!

Can stock rigs run on this trail? I would love to run the trail with people, long as I could drive my stock dodge ram on the trails with out beating the piss out of it(daily driver lol).

Like rocky mnt. crawler said, you can do it--there are bypasses on most obstacles, but you should be OK with a little tree branch pinstriping, or some possible minor rocker damage.

You guys allow people to bring 4wheelers on your trail ride then? I don't wanna screw my truck up, but would love to run the trail on our 4wheeler. 2008 Honda Foreman 500.

Some of the pics are club runs, some are "hey, let's go" runs. It's a public trail on Forest Service land--no problems running an ATV there. The FS's direction on making the obstacles was "Make sure there's a route in/through/around each obstacle so a stock ATV with a novice rider can get through safely." As you can imagine, though, there are some spots where a kid on a >50" wide ATV can ride through at idle that could do damage to your Dodge!

Very, very importantly, the FS is requesting comments on this trail due by January 15. I would love to see some comments from some of you out of state wheelers saying, "I'd love to see this trail, and will come to Montana specifically to run it. I would also like to see it expanded!!"

The FS has been amazing in working with local 4x4 groups on this trail, and they're willing to work with us more in an expansion. :grinpimp: Any and all support is appreciated!!

Drove there and it drove back. 2rz and short 40's do have a little on a 22r and 36's. Nothing broke, but a weird gremlin. Wind it up and as soon as I dumped the clutch, the motor dies then comes back when it winds down to 1500 rpm. Would do it consistant for about 3 minutes, then it was fine? Was just the two of us. Scouting mission. Will bring a chainsaw next time.

Is this at the big corner in the road above Emmons Creek? About the last place we went when I rode with you...I think Marty, Guffie and Steve Botkin were with us that day?

That area gets so many damn Tamaracks that turn from a 1" diameter, 3' tall sapling one year to a 10' tree in about 2 years!! It's a continuous job to keep everything brushed out.

Could be, it's mostly a blur anymore. It's a spur road off the loop that hits the highway before Lakeside. Wild thought, hopeing it would connect to the Blacktail road. Wondering if F.S. would be open to trail add ons below Blacktail? Could make more loop options. Not much for obstacles, but a nice scenic drive.

I gotta get back on this trail. We did a quick hit and run on this trail on the way back to Calgary from Moab last year and it was every bit as good as the trails down in Utah.

The only photo I can find :(

Seriously?!! That is very cool! :smokin:

Hopefully the FS follows through and lets us open up more of the logging roads in the area. They won't all be challenging trails--but they will offer some gorgeous scenic driving. One on the south side has a great view over Lake Mary Ronan, and a pair of connectors on the east side will give some great scenics of the Flathead Lake/Lakeside vista and better access from the north/east.

Doc McCoy
03-07-2011, 03:10 PM
Yeah, I'll have to get a FS map before we go back down. It seems like there is quite a network of trails and I'd rather not take a wrong turn onto a trail I'm not supposed to be on. It sounds like there might be a group going in mid may. :D

MT4Runner
03-08-2011, 07:50 AM
Shoot me your email. I'll send you a map of the FS' draft trail system.

The actual OHV trail you were on is just an upside-down T (when viewed with the map North). The proposed changes will ring trails around it. There is also a "U" that wraps around the T of regular FS roads you can drive logging trucks/towrigs/motor homes/granny cars on.
