anyone else seen a shaft break like this:
http://www.printroom.com/_vti_bin/ViewImage.dll?userid=YME&album_id=100449&image_id=24&param=92388

this is the first time running on this shaft. but this is also the first time running with a detroit in the D44. BTW: this is a dana 44 with a full detroit and stock shafts.

any way my question is does this look like a defective shaft. it almost looks like I cut the shaft it is such a clean break.

just wanted to get other opinions.

BTW: someone with a CJ (40ish" tires) came by and after talking to him realised he was on POR too, but I didn't catch his name. anyone want to admit to it.

here is the IMproper way to lift a vehicle:

*notice the other jeep "steadying" the jacked up jeep? hi-lift are just really unstable at this height especially in mudd.

this was at tellico near fain's ford on trail 4

sure looks like a standard shear failure to me.
too much torque and impact loading from the detroit.
time for alloy.:D

Personally havent broke one yet BUT I hear with stock shafts it is pretty common to shear them like that:beer:

i was on this trip with Seth and he wasn't on it hard enough IMO to break that shaft... especially that clean. No bouncing or anything violent.

your distributor gear looks stripped.

It took a good bit of twisting before it let go. Welcome to reality.
