I'm looking at swapping the drivetrain out of a 1999 Chevy 2500 4x4 with a Vortec 454, 4l80e, (not sure what transfercase) into a CJ7.
Any advice would be appreciated.
I'm concerned about the wiring swap. Is it a simple remove and install. Also concerned with headers fitting and trying to determine if the transfer case would be usable. What transfer case and rear axle did these come with.

should have a NP243 t-case and a 14B rear axle

Its actually a suburban. Is that different. Should I use that transfercase.
Do you think it would fit in a CJ. I think I could make it work with some block huggers.

Stock t-case from the Sub will be driverside drop. What front axle are you using?

Driver drop might be a problem. Is that transfer case worth using. Might have to until I can get an atlas. Im searching for a front axle now. Im looking to see what it will cost to get a Spider 9 built. I assume due to cost I will have to go with junkyard chevy 60.

you sure about that? I was under the impression that all GMs were pass drop.

GM has been drivers side drop on trucks since '88 and suburbans since 1992.
The T case is not the problem. The trans is. The 4L80E is just damn long. I was running a 241 with a short shaft kit and with the motor pulled rediculously far forward I still had almost no rear driveshaft.
If you're planning to stretch the rear 12-15" or so then you can get away with the 4L80.
The motor will fit, it will be tight and you'll have to work to get the exhaust to fit, but it can be made to work.
IMHO the LS motors are a much better swap in a Jeep. Lighter, smaller, good power and they can be run with the 4L60 trans for a shorter package.
