Try the search button. The a/c comp to air pump is a very easy conversion! :flipoff2:

It's really easy depending on your setup. The hardest part is mounting the compressor, and if you have a/c it's already done. Unhook the inlet and outlet hoses to your comp. (be careful because the outlet should be under pressure). Get a small filter for the "in" (I use one for a go kart) and then you gotta find fittings, reducers, quick releases etc. to setup the outlet for however you want. Mine just has a reducer, a quick release female air fitting, and a pop off valve. The tire filler setup I have can only take 150psi(as stated on the hose) so I got a 120-psi blow off. I just hook up my coily hose, turn on the engine, turn on the a/c switch inside (the stock one) and I can fill 4 35's to 35psi in under 10 minutes.

If I put more effort into it like buying an idle control unit (tires fill faster a 2,000rpm than at idle), a tank, better hose that could withstand the 300psi the compressor puts out, then I could easily run air tools also. Right now there's not enough volume.

Fittings etc. $20
Air chucks and cheap coily hose $20
on board air $Priceless

About $8.00
Parts: 1: Old Bike shifter
2: New cable and housing (thats your $8.00)
3: two small pieces of scrap steel, 1 for the cable mount at the carb, 1 for the cable bracket at the shifter

Add 60 minutes of your time and you have a control for RPM

Yep, same plan

When I built the hand throttle for this Team USA (http://www.northern4x4.com/events/OBC/team_usa.htm)

I used a bike gear shift as I have in the past, but the other end of the cable went to the gas pedal, not the carb.

There is also an electronic controller that works with ford EFI, but I can not find a link for it.. I have a friend with a 5.0 in a EB, using a elec idel controller. I'll email him and find out where he got it from.

The cable shifter idea works just fine on a EFI motor. I should know, I have one.

i talked to a mechanic about doing the on-board air and he said that evey now and again i would have to put oil in to the in take end of the compresser. does any one know any thing about that?

It depends on the type of compressor used. A York style http://www.off-road.com/ford/bigbroncos/tech/seal_retainer.jpg Has an internal reservoir, fill it and forget it (OK check the level once and awhile)

All of the other automotive type compressors need to have some oil placed in the intake stream to keep the unit lubed. Both the York and other need a down stream oil/water coalescing filter installed to lessen the amount of oil that gets to the hose end.
