: PRP seat dimension
Brian Ellinger 10-12-2009, 09:24 PM Toying with some ideas, one being putting in PRP seats. However, I need to see before looking into this any further. So, I need to determine if I would sit lower or higher, relative to seat bottom. This is what I came up with:
I need someone to sit on the floor, against a wall, and measure to the top of their head. Then, sit in PRP seat, and measure from the bottom of the seat, to the top of their head, with the measurement parrallel with their spine. Make sense? So if the seat is in the buggy, and the seat back is at 10 degrees, so should the tape be at 10 degrees.
Premier or comp high back owuld be ideal, and preferably a tall skinny guy like myself...paging Brandon!
I've got the competition Pro's that I can measure if that will help you any.
They are very nice seat, taller headrest, more side support, and the removable seat cushion is :smokin:

Or you could call PRP.

Sure!
SWAINBUILT 10-13-2009, 11:51 AM Come on Brian, The Honda Prelude seat is the best ever made! It out performs any aftermarket seat ever built. I hear the Iron Man even used them through all his wins! :flipoff2:
It's about damn time!

ha ha ha :flipoff2:
Actually still happy with those seats, Im just getting all sensitive to these kinds of comments! :bawling:
And looking at a prp rear bench, and I dont want to put more money in the backseat than the front! They should look like they match too!
maveric 10-13-2009, 05:22 PM I'll measure mine tonight when I get home. PRP highbacks. And I'll see if I can find a tall, skinny guy to measure them.:flipoff2:
My rear seat brackets are mounted below top of frame height (rear of seat sits on frame).
ftoy507 10-13-2009, 07:42 PM Seems like these measurment were on the web site.
Dont think I would be of any help since I have the fat man seat on the drivers side.
maveric 10-14-2009, 08:29 AM Measured against the wall...36.5" from floor to top of head.
Measured in the buggy, with seat reclined 20*...35.5" from bottom of seat (outside rear , lowest bracket on seat frame) to top of head.
Mine are the PRP Premier highbacks. On a side note, the Beard premies in the back look a LOT alike to the PRP's.
MT4Runner 10-14-2009, 09:37 AM Brian, as long as you're ordering seats, unless you're buying them "off the shelf", I'd recommend a couple of custom options:
Most seat manufacturers (and I assume PRP) will send you just a welded seat frame. Consider doing this so you can mod the left side of the passenger seat so it fits around your t-case front output.
Second, consider getting a custom taller seat. I'm 6'-6", and I wish I'd done so. The immediate thought was to get better head/neck support (just like raising your headrest in your DD)....but the "duh" :homer: reason to do so is that the harness slots in the back will be at, rather than below, your shoulders.
My MasterCrafts are the same dimension/fit as my PRP Comp Highbacks were, so I can give you a second set of dimensions if that helps.
Im4yotas 10-14-2009, 03:18 PM I came up with 2.5" between the bottom of the seat frame tubing to my ass using your method

I have a PRP bench seat in the back of my FToy. My kids complained about the seat not being comfortable because the center of the seat sags (my kids are 15 and 12). I took a ride back there to see what they were complaining about and it was actually worse than they were describing to me. I haven't had time to take it back to PRP yet. I don't know if it's just a simple adjustment they can make or if that's just the way the seat is made. If had to do it all over again, I would go with individual bucket seats in the rear just like the front.

Interesting to note, I havent heard of that before. As for 2 buckets, no room. Planning to stuff it between the frame rails, at 36" wide. That would be real narrow buckets!

I knew youd show up! Im still confused on maverics numbers, he got shorter in the seat, I think my explanation was confusing though!
Good info MT, thats my biggest concern.

I measured from the concrete floor up the wall to the top of my head. I measured from the bottom of the seat frame to the spot on the x-brace behind the seats where I thought my head was :flipoff2:.
Apparently I slouch in the seats cuz they are so comfy. I thought the numbers were messed up too.
As for the individual buckets... You can put 2 premies back there, but mounting them back far enough to have foot room, there is not a lot of headroom. They are narrow, and not much gap between them, and the are mounted right at the bend in the Hendrix back-seat bar. I'm going to put a bench in there when my son grows out of the buckets (or a single low-back bucket instead).
And along those lines, if your planning on putting full-on harnesses in the rear seats for the smaller kids, I would recommend individual strap 4 or 5 points. I went with the childrens 4 points (PRP) which have the shoulder straps stitched to the waist belts. My son is 4 and is built like his dad. When he is buckeling in, we have to loosen the shoulder straps every time because he can't get his arms through the straps. With individual straps like our fronts, they just need buckeled.

Maybe a center seat pan support bar from the "ass bar" to the "knee bar"....nobody would ever want to sit in the middle of the back seat, but would give more support to kids sitting on each side of it--or just one kid sitting on one side??

Yeah---I have a Jeep TJ flip/fold seat sitting in the back of mine. It's the width of the outside of the framerails, and with the kickup at the rear axle, it's definitely going to be low headroom. My wife is 5'-4", and it will be a little tight for her; there's at least a foot over each of my girls' heads (for now!!).
If I did it over, I'd consider using a longbed/xtracab frame so the kickup would be farther back. With the lift we end up running on these buggies, it's not like we're using all the stuff potential of the rear axle.
I had the bench, next time I'd buy two individual seats for the kids, with headrest. Belts hold them in to there own seats much better and it'd be safer.
maveric 10-16-2009, 01:28 PM My son is 4. Kinda tall, but he will outgrow the width before height becomes an issue.

I'll try to get some more pics of the seats mounted this weekend.
