: Duracoat on a supressor. Will it hold up?

A guy at work has an AAC 5.56 can for his AR15. It's bare metal, and he wants it black.

I figure this should be fine, since duracoat holds up on barrels pretty well... but has anyone duracoated a suppressor and then gotten it really hot? How's it hold up?

I have a *lot* of gloss black duracoat, so I'd prefer to use it instead of something else. Told him I'd do it for free as long as I got to run some rounds through it. :)

I used Rustoleum high temp spray paint on my AAC 5.56 and so far its holding up fine. Would like to know about the duracoat too.

We do them in moly-resin, never done one in duracoat.

If it's for free whats the worst that can happen?

I would think it'd be ok. I mean, hell, you basically bake it to get it to harden anyways. Is that suppressor really going to get over 350* when shooting?

I guess it was somewhat rhetorical. What's the average temps?

Quoted from http://www.qsmsilencers.com/quick%20detach%20myth.htm

If the estimates of silencer temperature increase are 7 degrees per round, after 20 rounds if you grab the silencer it's like sticking your hand in boiling water. Your skin will start to melt basically at any temperature over 140 degrees. If you put 100 rounds through your silencer, temperatures will approach 800 degrees and you might as well try to grab a red hot stove element.

Probably not, but there's only one way to know for sure.

It probably won't last... They do manufacture Duraheat for high temperature applications (Like suppressors and barrels)

Sand blast, park, clean, duracoat. Let sit for about 6 weeks.

The DC turns black after about 4 mags, smokes at around 6, and by 10 is totally burnt and flaked off.

I have not tried DuraHeat yet.

"The suppressor was originally painted along with the rest of the rifle in Duracoat. It off course has totally fried off. I need to bead blast the exterior and use Duraheat or header paint on it next time."

This gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling. I need to go to the range.....

I have some Duraheat I've never used. All my cans have Gunkoate on them. Zero issues.
Reg. Duracoate will burn off.

Not to mention it's cheap and easy to touch up if needed. Mine hasn't needed it yet.
