<font color="yellow">I think with everyone's help, we can start the letter writing campaign we were discussing a while back.

I would like to suggest a format, then take any comments and suggestions. There will be a lot of information, we need to keep it organized and easily locatable (if thats even a word <IMG SRC="smilies/confused.gif" border="0"> ).

-----------------------

First the subject lines need to be clear. I think we need to pick a format and everyone use that format.

something like: Letter writing campaign, the company name, followed by a request for info

example of a Subject line.
"Letter Writing Campaign: Ford - info needed"

maybe shorten "Letter Writing Campaign" to LWC after a few months of exposure??

Or maybe I can see if Lance is able to make an "administration" message at the top of the LU page - something like: "Directions for Letter Writing Campaign, click here". This would ink to a page that outlines all the formats for the LWC??

----------------------

Second any info in that post on that company should be just that: info on the company in the subject line.

----------------------------

Third, all info should have sources listed, as we may/will reference them in our letters

--------------------------------

Fourth...do we need any thing else??

What do you guys think??</font c>

I like the above idea. The easier the better, then there is no excuse for not writing. What about the online petition thing that was used a little while ago. Does that do any good?

<font color="yellow">To clarify for people that are new or may have been out of the country <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0">....

The letter writing campaign I was suggesting was to write a letter a week to companies asking them both to look deeper into the organizations they donate to, and to ask them to support our (BRC,Tread Lightly, CA4WDC, etc) cause to keep the land open. With out this land, we will have no place to use their products.

The LWC in this forum would be used as a central place for everyone to post any information they can dig up on a particular company. Each company would have its own thread (clearly outlined in the Subject heading). This would only be used to gather and post the info.

This info would than be used in a letter and posted in a seperate post (labeled "Get off your a$$ and do something" or something like that <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">). From this post everyone could then just copy, sign and send the letter....

So in actuality, we might need 3 different subject prefeixes/suffixes:

one for info,
one for te actual writing/editing of the letter,
and one for the finished copy to be posted for mailing

The "administration post" would outline all these things so people don't have to keep explaining the format over and over again. It would be a reference only post that people could be directed to for any questions on the format for submitting information...

Count me in. If we all send letters to a company requesting thier environmental standings, who & what organizations they contribute to & why, maybe they will start to realize that we want to support only the companies that support our causes, not fight us.
Let me know what you want me to do Yellowsub.

Peter, I am ready to do whatever it is we need to do. Let me know exactly what you want, and I will tell you if we can do it. <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0">

Do we just want a static html information page? Or do we want automatic mailing forms, etc., or what? Let me know and I now have a little time this week to make it happen.

Take it to email: lance@pirate4x4.com

something similar to this would rock: (mhasr mentioned this in another thread)
http://arizona.sierraclub.org/monuments/takeaction.html

The easier and faster it is to use the better- if you could simply type in your name and adress and it would ship off a form letter to 20 different people 5 times a week people here would be more likely to use it. You could change the letter and the recipients every week or so and have people take just a second to re-send.

if everyone that used this BBS did this once a week it would generate a LOT of mail.

if the sierra klub is using it it probably works <IMG SRC="smilies/frown.gif" border="0">

I filled out one of the sierra club's forms and changed the message to an anti-sierra club message.
