It will be interesting to see what pressure the outcome of this poll will put on the district from the press + community.

I will update this thread as I learn anything...

This area has been debated for a while now, and any help would be appreciated.

Thanks again all.

Sucks..

At least in the states the people actually know abotu the closings and have a slight chance to save them... we never get the representation as most of these things are slid in inder the radar...

Hope for the best.

That is quite the blanket statement. I disagree, at least in Alberta. Monitoring the SRD website would reveal that they have to give notice before doing pretty much anything.

You have worked "with" the SRD

I have been worked "against"

They are as crooked as the rest of the cash grabbing politicians. They get cash from the oil/logging companies, then greenies are notified by the companies first, they in turn get a longer timeline to "protect their land" and then some website puts a post out there that says.... "hey, we're takingaway your rights, this is only a notification, nothing you can do here..."

So from that we are supposed to get to fight for our areas...

We can't have the mud (cause its ghey) because it is a natural ecosystem
We cant have trails in trees cause of lost revenue by the loggers
We cant use hills to wheel because of the "damage" to the ecosystem
We cant climb rocks because they are pretty
We can't climb mountains because some hiker in 100 years might see a treadmark
We stay the hell out of water

So what do we do? Sit in the corner and think about our illegal wheeling actions. We're not wrong, we do less damage (the good ones of us) than a bunch of cows in a field. Rain washes away our (wheeling) sins, the footprint is a hell of alot less than the parkinglots, tourism centers, hotels, logging and oil leases. But we don't pay that much tax, so screw us.

The SRD is not on "our" side, that is; the side that wants to continue the feasible wheeling that we enjoy; the SRD is a govt. resource center that is paid by the taxes that the oil/loggers/greenies pay. They are biased, I have been in the brainstorming sessions.. there are levels of govt in every land use meeting, but they are not the ones from SRD, they are the ones from oil/gas logging and fisheries

The Front Counter BC is a government owned and run public feedback land management branch.
Their SOLE reason to be is to implement the NEW land use framework, they forgot to tell the public, didn't give public input and did not heed the information from the public consultants they hired.
As of Oct 15, 2009 the NEW land use framework in BC is effective, and short of printing it, they now have the legal right to charge a fee for ANY usage of crown land, walks, picnics wheeling comps... you name it. I have had conversations with the people from the Front counter.. They are low level govt officials, they all happen to work for... Wait for it... Forestry, minister of resource management, tourism and for some reason water and fishery management...

The govt is not on our side, we don't pay them enough to be, it doesn't matter if you are in Alberta, BC or the rest of the crappy provinces.

In Canada, there is not the legislation for public informatory of legal events. We're more screwed than the US doods, we just don't hears about it.

(Had to get this off my chest, I am sorry for taking the thread somewhere else, let me know and I will gladly delete this. )

Well, you probably will need to leave the larger population centers and the areas close to them if you want to wheel to your heart's content whenever and wherever you choose.

I have found the SRD in the three management areas I deal with to be completely on our side (They hate the quads right now). Someday you should come on up here and sit down with my friends (yes friends) in the SRD and maybe you will warm up a little.

Alberta has much more great wheeling areas than the foothills and mountains west of Calgary and Red Deer :)

*The SRD in your area are probably pricks for good reason. I remember Maclean and Waiparous were complete shit-holes 15 years ago! 15 years ago myself and Rayne would go there and wonder when they were going to close those areas. We all knew it was coming.

They changed it to putting tolls on all the bridges in Vancouver (like THAT will keep the riff raff out?)
