Going to do an axle swap on my RR...FJ80 axles, anyone have any experience with Rockware in Co(I would get RCH to do it but I am moving to Co in 2 weeks)?? I have the money but definately don't have the time or welding skills....Sooo I called them and they seemed straight up. But if ya'll have any advise or info (good or bad) on Rockware, post

If you know where I can get FJ80 axle cheaper than 1,100$....Post:flipoff2:

you can usually find fj80 axles for less at salvage yards for less than that. Rockware is very reputiable Matt is a good gouy and has fabbed up some pretty good stuff. Good luck on the swap and definately get some pics.

Yep, I used to live in C. Springs. Matt and Bill do quality work and are fun guys to wheel with.

PS-keep us posted on the swap

I concur.. Matt has done some nice stuff for me. Made a tie-rod to order, while I waited.....

On the fj80 price, that's better than I have found. I am looking also, so if you find more, pm or email me.

doo doo,
you are going to have to go out with me and Way when you get here. Way is in the springs now as well.

Also I was thinking to get the axles even cheaper is use a FJ80 rear axle (it has the correct offset/discs and I think most are full floating) and in the front a early 85 toy axle (I have found a few for 200-250 range..one on the board now) and use a spacer to get the correct width.

I have found rear axles for 500$

The cheapest up front was 600$ which isn't crazy

If RCH is that rover clubhouse outfit you're even better off with Rockware than other pirateers have stated.

DooDoo Brown,

Another way to do it is to swap the rover centres for toy hylux ones then get alloy 30spline axles and also run toy CV up front (you can then run longfields). This would be straight bolt up mods and a little drilling and tapping and some machining on the spindles.

This would get you to the same as the fj80axles except with a smaller rear crown and pinion. You would still be full floating and still run rover wheels etc.

I dont know how the cost would compare but I would imagine that this would be cheaper than your proposal of getting the axle swap done.

FWIW

I'm also looking for a front FJ80 axle.

Sam, the FJ80 uses significantly larger cv's than do the earlier FJ's and the trucks.

yes the FJ80 birfs are significantly larger check out this thread

Also the rears run much larger shafts than land rovers. Ever looked at a FJ40 axle compared to a rover axle? It's interresting to say the least. Some times those Japanese really know what they are doing. Also you have the strength advantages of the larger pinion and slightly cheaper gears. Also these axles are set up for coils (FJ80s) and if I remember right they are very similar in size to the rover coil so making new spring seats may not even be neccessary. I am curious if you could run FJ 80 outers with the rover housing and a toy third. I am sure you could would be interresting. Oh one last thing to add for the ad. of FJ80 axles can also be had with a e-locker for a grand (total cost of axle with e-locker and abs stuff) Can't wait to see some pics.

DAMN - should have got FJ80 axles.

I think I did know that the CVs were bigger in the 80 series, I just forgot.
