: Rugger sr-22
I had a rugger 10-22 and it was a great little plinker. As far as I know the rugger 10-22 is one of, if not the best selling 22 rifle on the market.
So it begs the question, what do you think of the "new" sr-22 ?
is it tacticool or tactifool ?

Scott@Rockstomper 10-16-2009, 09:45 AM I vote tactifool; for that money, you could have an actual AR15 which you can convert (granted, for more money, but conversion doesn't preclude returning it to .223) to .22; you can't reasonably convert that to .223 for any amount of money.

educate me why you have that opinion ? what makes it gay ?

It's an overpriced 10/22 sold from the factory in an aftermarket dress-up kit.
For the same money, you could either build a very nice 10/22 with far better accuracy potential, or if you want tactical, you could purchase a dedicated .22 upper for an AR15.
If your goal (as stated by Ruger) is to train cheaply with a gun ergonomically similar to the AR, then all your controls are in the wrong place.
how much is a brand new rugger 10-22 ?
mine was an old hand me down

About $200 at Wal-Mart.

Apparently it's very difficult to shop for them online... Cabelas won't list pricing or info on actual guns, nor will Dick's, Bass Pro, or Walmart. Big 5 has them on sale this week for $260 (regular price $330).
COVEJEEPSXJ 10-16-2009, 10:50 AM I believe you can get the 10/22 carbines or cheapo black synthetics for about $200-210 right now.

a good site I use for base price shopping new stuff is ableammo.com
crazybluerider 10-16-2009, 10:56 AM I payed 185 a little over a year ago at my local sportsmans warehouse. This was for a wood stocked carbine with the metal trigger group.
LOPPY 10-16-2009, 11:04 AM Your best bet around here Camo is Big 5. Got one for my .17HM2 build recently and shopped all over the 'net and found them cheaper, but found shipping, driving to FFL etc. it was a PITA and in the end, not much savings. Just spent the $30 more or so just to save the hassle and do a one stop shop.
nooblet 10-16-2009, 11:08 AM I just happen to glance at the wood stock 10/22 in Academy yesterday and it was $189.
Chris
maxyedor 10-16-2009, 11:41 AM Aren't there a couple .22 ARs out there on the market for around $500? If what you're going for is a tacticool .22, seems that would be the way to go. Or just buy the sheapest 10/22 out there and slap a bull-barrel and stock on there, fiddle with the trigger and find a deal on a decent scope, should be able to build it all up around $500-600 depending on how good you are as finding bargains.
pb4u4x4 10-16-2009, 11:50 AM I picked up my 10/22 with a wood stock and 3-9x40 scope for $219 at Cabelas.
broncman 10-16-2009, 12:22 PM Camo, it is YOUR money, if you want it, BUY IT!!
That is the great part about your own money. Spend it how YOU want it!
I like the Ruger Charger but others don't. My money, my guns :D
Chris 10-16-2009, 01:13 PM What Scott said. Buy an AR and a conversion kit.
You can build a NICE Ruger .22 for under 500 bucks as well.
usmcdoc14 10-16-2009, 01:14 PM for the $$ not worth it. I would rather pick up a beat 10/22 from a pawn shop and then get the tacticool outer/better barrel and still be under that price tag.
JamesFirearm 10-17-2009, 08:03 AM We've got a bunch of different 10/22's in stock if you want one.
Personally, I'd look at a .22 conversion for the AR or a dedicated Spikes upper.
far...right 10-17-2009, 08:08 AM Even better.

Actually, it looks like a PPSh-41. :flipoff2:

yup
I have a 22 kit for my ar's
& a 10-22 with the car stock & an uber built target 10-22 with everything including barrel threaded to action, .5oz kid full trigger etc
it's 4sale cheaper then the parts cost, need 4x4 parts:D
rugger 10-17-2009, 06:04 PM I just had this crazy feeling that somebody started a thread about me.
AGUNTHER 10-17-2009, 06:39 PM For that kind of money Id buy a target version, or pick up a used one and build it up nicely. No need for a tacticool .22.
jackson2009 10-18-2009, 08:32 AM its WAY overpriced
seafarinman 10-27-2009, 12:20 PM Seen them for $469 at the local gun shop yesterday. I already have a 10/22 in the Nordic Arms kit (SR22 is rebadged Nordic kit). Not really possible to build your own 10/22 in the Nordic kit for as cheap as buying the SR22. That said, the newer 10/22's lack the quality that everyone was already used to with the old ones. Plastic trigger housings and bolts with bad machine marks are the norm now. Lucky I have a couple spare aluminum trigger housings I can swap into newer 10/22's and its easy enough to polish the ugly, gritty bolts.
