i was screwing around with my b&m shifter today and started looking at ways to make it slam from 1st gear to neutral. well the only way i think i can make the type of shifter i have work is to make it a reverse slam. the way i would have to file down the tabs that make it stick i think it is going to miss neutral. is there any problem in doing a reverse slam other than the obvious of fucking up the transmission by going from forward to reverse that quickly possibly under power. it is a turbo 350 with 205 twin stick behind it. i know there are people that have done this. i would like some feedback on how you have liked it or how it has been a pain in the ass.

What is a reverse slam? do you mean a reverse valve body? and the whole part "well the only way i think i can make the type of shifter i have work is to make it a reverse slam'' make's absolutley no sense, re word your question so that we can understand it.

Not to flame you but it is an automatic. If you want to shift gears get a manual. Why fix something that is not broken?

I have the same shifter, I believe what he's asking is because it is a slap shifter, which you can slap 1st, 2nd, D, N, if he minuses N and makes it go to R instead, this would go from forward power to reverse as fast as he can slap it.
Yes, you can damage your transmission, if you are under forward power and you go straight into reverse, it can cause severe damage. Is it worth it? Absolutely. I would rather blow a transmission than loose a jeep in a bad end-over accident. The way I am doing this with my transmission however is by removing the whole mechanism all together, that way I can simply just shift it instead of slapping it. Same thing as what you're doing, different ways.

Incase you got yourself up a hill you can't make, front end starts rolling back on you, you can hit into reverse and probably save the rig, as compared to letting it flip down on itself.

yes thats what i was asking 2003 ram. i think i would rather have it where i could throw it into neutral but i think with the b&m that i have it will miss neutral and go to reverse. which i think is bad but like you stated id rather lose a transmission than my rig. thanks for the insight.

no i dont mean a reverse valve body. i mean exactly what i said. a way to make my b&m slap shifter on a turbo 350 go from 1st gear to neutral or reverse w/o having to operate the lever that locks it in each gear. it makes perfect sense if you knew what i was talking about.

Dunno WHICH B&M you have but search under my screenname for our B&M pro stick mod that can be done to most B&M shifters, and even the stock Jeep TJ shifters. I have described it a couple if times, including a pretty detailed breakdown with pics a couple times.
After seeing how we did it, I seem to remember BillaVista doing a writeup on our mods in his articles. SEARCH, it's there. We've been doing it for a decade now.

thanks redbulljeep. i read billavistas article from front to back before i made any decisions on what i did. i dont have the b&m pro stick shifter. its just a cheap t handle slap shifter that has the T type lockout handle right in front of the T shifter. i did my modification last night by filing away the stops. i actually like the way it turned out i can slap pretty hard and fast and it goes straight to neutral. or i can slam it as fast and hard as i can and it goes to reverse. i searched and read billavistas article and it really only had what people thought that each shifter would do and what they thought might happen. im looking for real world opinions and thoughts on how it has saved your ass or other peoples ass.

The mod works the same on the T shifter...our crew cheif has one and it's even the same parts, just a different handle.
As for saving our ass...nonstop, but then again, we're usually doing big climbs where having instant reverse is a must.
