: Anyone see the stock Range Rover at Cadillac this Sunday 9/22?
Roc Dog 09-23-2002, 05:03 PM I was just exiting the top of Cadillac this Sunday at about 2pm and sitting at the top were these two yuppie guys in a stock Land Rover asking me if they could go down that hill, and if it was easy, and if there was a place to turn around if they couldn't make it. I told them, they may get some damage and the only place to turn around is at the bottom. (if they make it that far).
So I was wondering if anyone saw them and if so do we need to call it Land Rover Hill now because there is now a Land Rover sitting in the bushes???

Roc Dog 09-23-2002, 05:58 PM I knew there would be some Range Rover guys that would get their panties in a bunch when I posted this. It's ok guys, you have bad ass Range Rovers but the Range Rover that I was talking about was actually a Land Rover (sorry to make such a mistake) and it was bone stock! Now even you Range Rover guys have to admit that taking a stock Land Rover down Cadillac Hill would not be the smartest thing to do. :flipoff2:
road1will 09-23-2002, 06:02 PM depends what kind of land rover. how old did it look? leaf springs?
Old Scout 09-23-2002, 06:06 PM Boy this is getting better.

Yes it was a red one. You must have been a head of me. I saw the guy sitting just at the top of Cadillac and he was tring to decide if he was going to go down or not. Before I hurt Old Scouts ego and this thread went off into a "how cool my Range or Land Rover is" I was just wondering if anyone saw this guy and what happened to him. If it were a stock Runner at the top of Cadillac I would wonder the same thing.
Old Scout 09-23-2002, 11:04 PM No ego trip, it was your stereotyping that make you look like a DAN! Can a Toyota guy handle a three syllable word?:flipoff2:

Depends on your definition of wheel.
At Team Trophy Challenge, they can't. No ground clearance, no flex, small tires, no power, no gearing.
BTW - last I checked Land Rovers didn't come stock with snorkles... something tells me those ain't totally stock. ;)
The drivers of said Land Rovers at TTC that were competing seemed to be very stuck up when I met them. They also couldn't have wheeled their way out of a wet paper bag. The drivers also sucked ass.
Anyway... until I see more Land Rover guys that know how to wheel, and have Rovers that are setup to do it. As well as not having the "Rover Attitude". I feel safe stereotyping. I mean... lighten up, you guys all call Jeep owners Sheep lovers. we play along with it, thats the same stereotype... I mean... some Jeep owners like goats. :flipoff2:

I guess OS and others are probably more sensitive to that than others. I hear it EVERY time I hit the trail. It gets old. Prejudice in ANY form sucks.
Sounds to me like the Rangie drivers had some smarts, at least they asked advice before "just doing it".
I would like to know if they made it, and I would like to see pics of the area since I haven't been there, and I have NO idea what the pucker rating is on that obstacle.

Small minded? nawww... Just pointing out that someone may be a weee bit sensitive today about stereotypes... lets list a few:
Rover Drivers - Stuck up, snobbish, major I am superior to you attitude, even if they don't know shit.
Jeep Drivers - Fawking morons... quite possibly the cheapest people on the planet, yet drive the most expensive vehicles to buy manufacturer/OEM replacement parts for. Lets not even get in to V8 conversions, etc. since the drivetrains aren't up to real serious duty. (4.0L mostly excluded from that) They also have a odd fascination with anal entries on Sheep, or anything else 4 legged if a sheep is not available.
Scout Drivers - one word? I think excentric (sp) might cover it
White people - Crazy mother fawkers that kill everyone around them when someone pisses in their cheerios
Black people - at least they only kill the person that pissed in their cheerios
Relax OS, I was just having some fun. Problem is... Stereotypes generally old some truth for 90% of the population in any particular stereotype.. And that just pisses the 10% off since they get folded in to it and aren't like that at all. ;)
In my reference to rover drivers... 8 out of the 10 or so that I met, were pretty damn snobby, even for wheelers.

4Bangler 09-24-2002, 04:20 PM So.....in over eleven hours exactly what has been established?
Does anyone know if the Rover with eledged yuppies in it made it down Cadillac Hill?
As for stereotyping, I saw a sig on another board that cracked me up...."Not everyone that wheels a full-size has a mullet" A statement that I would have disagreed with a couple of years ago, and still wonder about once in a while.
Magoo 09-24-2002, 04:33 PM I spent 2 years at a remote storage site in Germany. I have more seat time in (not driving-wouldn't let me) Mogs than most Germans. I have seen them get stuck. High centered even. Yes it happens, even if it was on a slimmy log bridge over a 3' trench. Very capable vehicles, but spend half the cash on well designed and thought out vehicle and you could wheel circles around them.
Never been in a Rover though.... :(

evilfij 09-24-2002, 06:08 PM I spent last night watching some videos made by one of my friends who just came back from Australia. While there he bought a stock 1976 109 SW for about $2500 US. He then wheeled it for about 5000km off road over a month up to the tip of the continent, through everything imaginable, and finally back to catch his flight. The last 1000km of the trip were completed with the rear spring mount broken off from stress cracks and gross overloading. He complete the whole trip wearing a pair of flip flops.
A rover will take you anywhere you can drive it. Even if you wear birkenstocks. I don't know if the stock RR went down the hill, but it could have. If a 1952 80in land rover on 33s can make upper (yes upper) heldorado, a range rover can make that hill.

This thread got way off track. I simply was wondering if a stock rig {NO MATTER WHAT KIND OF STOCK FAWKING RIG IT WOULD HAVE BEEN} made it down Cadillac Hill. Sorry I used the word "Yuppie" in the thread but considering these guys were wearing collared shirts, loafers with no socks and designer sunglasses, I happened to use the word Yuppie. It would not have mattered if they were driving a fawking Rav4, I would have used that same word. I was not bashing one make and dont know shit about Rovers nor care to. I just want to know if two guys are still sitting on Cad Hill looking for a ride out.
As far as being a "dweeb" as you put it, you won't see me wasting my time or being "bored" as you put it being a dweeb ass like you getting all butt hurt about other peoples threads that mention stock 4 Runners being in places they shouldn't be.
OS, if your so fawking bored, put your fawking latte down, take off your izod, put on some boots, buy yourself a pooper scooper, turn on your seat warmers and get your ass out on the Con in Mid October and help us clean the trash and shit off the trail.

Scott,
My thoughts exactly. I dont know even if he would have had help if he would have made it back up. That thing was really low to the ground and to be honest I was surprised he made it as far as he did. It would take one burley rig to drag that thing back up Cad Hill.

Geeze guys It's all in fun and if you cant see the humor in it , you need a  to loosen up!
Flipping thru yearbook now to find a yuppie pic of Keith now . You played football and track if I remember
Yep, it be some funny shit this thread but thing is, folks from Orinda now how to "Maximize", so what about it? Latte's, fawk the latte's, I want a Rover too... HA!
Don't miss that page in the '80 edition proclaiming me the STUD walkin across senior lawn, :flipoff2: you Bob, you only wish!
BillaVista 09-25-2002, 06:14 AM yeah anything that can be discribed as an "urban jungle warrior" has just gotta be (little rainbow coloured flag thing)
No, you see that's an AMERICAN journalists description of a European rig. The Germans / Austrians would never describe it as that....you guys do, to sell it to AMERICAN consumers, hah!
Actually, I've not seen the new U.S spec legally imported ones, and suspect they are the same luxury over function evolution that has gripped everything from LandRovers (Series II to Freelander) Jeep (CJ2A to Liberty) to Chevy Pickups.
My experience is with an older European model - an '82. And if'n ya don't think full hydro locking diffs, the worlds only fully synchro T-case, Huge wheelwells, rubber bumpers, 4 wheel coils and discs, and simple sheetmetal along with rubber floors but leather seats is fawkin cool, I guess we'll never agree :flipoff2:

Oooops, guess someone just pissed of the wrong guy! See, just goes to show you.....you should never stereotype or practice prejudice...that "yuppie" might just be the Duff man ....Ooooh yea!
Eskimo 09-25-2002, 06:43 AM Not to poke MORE fun at the Rover crowd, but when they do their group runs at Uwharrie (hard core baby), there are signs posted that say "use low range here" and "use descent control here", etc...
Now maybe for a TOTAL newbie, this is a good thing, since they won't drill a hole in their triple maple-hardwood dash to mount a fawking CB so they can talk to each other...
Is it true that they won't go out of park unless the soccerballs are strapped down, and the wine & cheese cooler is full?

Alright OS, your ok in my book then. Your just a little touchy on the RR / LR thing but you shouldn't be. They are by far one of the trickest OEM vehicles you can buy off the show room floor for wheeling. I just would not take a stock anything anywhere near Cad Hill or many parts of the Con.
I will see you out there for the clean up, I will hit you up for that  and we can laugh about all this. :D

Fight, fight, fight.
