A couple of my customers brought me this 73 Scout w/ no lift, no body, 36 TSLs, 4.89 gears and a spool in the back so that they could wheel it without fear of rolling. The scout was the nastiest thing I'd ever seen, but now that we put a 12-point all DOM cage on it...it doesn't look so bad.

A few pictures before we finished.

here is a couple after he loaded it up on his trailer.

I'm finishing up his buddies 70s K5 Blazer w/ a Willy's pickup body tonight/tomorrow ~ so that should look better, but I thought I'd share the 73 Scout II and Cage, or is that a Cage w/ a 73 Scout II?!?!?!

BTW ~ yes that is snoopy in the background...still waiting for me to finish up the bed and the its getting Duplicolor Roll-On BedLiner...but I've got to many cages to build this week...so it waits.

WTF, are you going to dove tail the front or rear, are you trying to make a cube or is the fact that the wheels are not far enough outside the fenders have something to do with it. :flipoff2:

A sick as it sounds... I like it.

Looks more like a Scout than say Cain's rig, yet the tube is practical....

not going to go out an do it right away.... but may be an option should worce come to worce :D

definaly better sight in the front and rear. Needs to bob the frame though. :flipoff2:

judging by the second pic , and where the cage conects, i'd assume that theres a 1/4 setup in the future of this rig...???

Your correct, this rig will be getting a bunch of stuff in the future...coils or 1/4 elliptic are in its immediate future.

The funny thing is that when the owner of it saw the cage work, he wished that we did the whole chassis...meaning that he didn't keep what body he had. I'm not totally happy with the way the rig turned out but given that I was on a VERY strict budget ($1200) and DOM cost $80 per length (used 7 lengths), I did what I could. If I had to do it over, I would have taken off the body...and then I' would have relocated the tank, cut the back end off, and then matched the rear with a front 'windsheild hoop' that allowed for door and side bars that sloped at a 45* towards the frame. But considering the budget/body I had to work with, I can't say I'd do it much different.

One thing for sure...I definately got some ideas on how to build my crawler now.

This is along the lines I was thinking. Of course the cage will be allot more ellaborate, and the body will be OVER the cage, so it looks like a Scout...but you get the idea. Oh, all bars from the seat base down will be angled inward towards the frame...so that there is more space between where the rocker panels are usually located (basically everything that is darken'd in)
