: Rear d60 hub question

I have a rear D60 out of a Ford (not sure of year, make, model...)...

I rebuilt the 60 with info from the 60 guide on Pirate...All went well or so I thought.

When I was putting the axle shafts in, I had some issues witht he drivers side shaft. It didn't seem to "seat" right. I took the shaft back out and remeasured the old the shaft to make sure I got the lengths correct and reinstalled the shaft. It seemed to go all the way to the hub so I bolted it in and torqued it down.

Yes everything turns when I turn the yoke. :flipoff2:

The issue I have is that hub leaks. I RTV'ed the flanges when I bolted them up, and that side had a metal gasket in it when i took it apart.

Any ideas as to what that gasket is, or why it would be there?

And what the heck can i do to stop this thing from leaking?

It should be an aluminum gasket. I have had good luck putting a thin layer of rtv on both sides of the aluminum gasket. Also clean out the bolt holes with carb cleaner and use locktite on the bolts.

Should this gasket be on both sides or just the drivers side?

Only the drivers side had it.

I did put RTV on it, but I can try again. It isn't hard to do, just annoying :)
