: Swamped the Zuki
Orionn 09-24-2002, 05:49 AM Well I was at the Badland in Attica Indiana this past weekend and swamped the Zuki in a mud hole.
It was doing great and then got sucked into a deep rut and filled with mud to just below the windows.
I almosty got it out under its own power but I just couldn't get moving fast enough with all the mud in the cab, so I had to be towed. But in never stoped running till it hit dry ground!! :D
Well, I now have the sensor light on, which I have no idea what thats for, and a beeping sound from somewhere under the dash, it beeps even with the key off.
anyone have ideas?
as soon as I can get all the pics I will try and get some posted, it was alot of fun.....but the clean up is gonna suck:rolleyes:
Here is a 'before' Pic, just proving to the ranger croud I was with that a sammy can climb wet rocks :flipoff2:  Poser shot (http://community.webshots.com/photo/50824634/50827231BqWKKo)
Orionn 09-24-2002, 07:32 AM Anyone out there have ssome ideas on this problem?:(
Erik Dossett 09-24-2002, 07:57 AM That stuff is pretty nearly liquid, right? I think you have gunk in every connector under the dash :( . Clean up may mean taking connectors apart and washing the silt/muck out of every one untill the issue of wandering electrons is solved.
Flashing light? Could be many things, dead sensors, dead computer.... hows it running? Are you fuel injected? Or could be the wandering electrons under the dash again. Start there.
Orionn 09-24-2002, 10:25 AM Sorry, its an '87, carburated. Yea I figure the dash will have to come out, and everything cleaned.
It runs great still,(if you push/pull start it, fried the starter) so I think the computer is fine. I am still confused by the beep, its about 3-4 seconds apart. I think its a warning beep for a sensor or something.
Yea the mud there is prety silty, not much large matter in it, but this hole was different, the top was the silty stuf, the bottom was swamp muck, fortunatly though, I got very little of the muck inside.
perhaps this is a good time to do the frame off mods I need to do...:D
Slowzuki 09-24-2002, 10:47 AM Starter might not be fried, they pack up with mud a lot and get jammed.
My other sam had a buzzer under the dash that would randomly go off, I think it was near the instrument cluster. Never have heard it go for any "function" though.
Note this was a canadian no computer model.

Rockrat 09-24-2002, 01:16 PM Check all your fuses I no there is one under there that when it blows it causes a back feed through my buzzer real faint
tZUKnami 09-24-2002, 02:24 PM I never thought I had a door buzzer until I got it swamped once. Now everytime it rains (I have not had the top on it since I built my cage in Jul) it starts "working" again. Does it only beep with the key in?
Orionn 09-25-2002, 04:45 AM The sound is not a buzzer, weak or quite.
It is literally a 'beep' kinda like a the one you get when punching in the time on a microwave ovens panel.
it beeps about every four second, with or without the key in place.
I have the batery disconected right now....
getting ready to yank the whole thing dwon to the frame, that way I can clean it AND do the other mods/repairs it need.
I will have pics next week but no way to host them, can someone do that for me or post them here?

I fully intend to do that, and maybe do a favor or two for the neighbors wife while I'm at it!!!
but really, I am straped right now, this weekends cash came from my house payment(yea i know, cry me a fawkin river:flipoff2: )
I will join up probably next month...till then i have to mooch a bit.
thanks:D
SilverZuk 09-25-2002, 10:05 AM Sounds like you triggered the "deep water" sensor that 87 models were equipped with.
The light is the "your fawked" light which is connected to the deep water sensor.
When it is beeping, try to pull fuses one at a time until it quits.
This will isolate which circuit it's on.
Then use a multi meter to determine which wire is getting charged when it beeps.
UZI 9mm 09-25-2002, 07:51 PM my seatbelt buzzer was the very first thing i disabled after buying mine, via the "remove the wire method".
just last week i was poking around with the instrument cluster out of the dash, and discovered a black box with the word "buzzer" moulded into it, plugged into the back of the instrument panel itself.
i don't know for certain if this is one and the same beast, or if it resembles yours, but when my buzzer did buzz- it didn't "buzz" at all, but made the world's most pathetic gurgling "beep" sound in actuality.
undo the four screws on your instument cluster (and curse the dumb fawk that put the hazard switch where it is:D ) and pop off the buzzer module-see if it is making that beep.
it will only take 5 minutes to do.
Orionn 09-26-2002, 06:01 AM I'll look around for the buzzer, I need to pull the Instrument panel anyhow to do some repairs back there, so I'll have the chance.
I cleaned it last night, after 3 hours with a presure washer I found a Zuki under all that mud. the beep is gone now that it dried out, so it goes to the bottom of the to-do list, the rest of the mechanicals though will take some time to fix.
thanks for your help.
