I think it's out of a 02 Superduty...

I plan on takin down the housing a few inches on the short drivers side. And having it welded up to the tube and the cast.

The day I brought him home, he's so cute....

Once I figure out how tall I need them to be I'll order up some of these upper control arm mounts, and have one welded to the housing.

I'm building an '03 Superduty 60. Subscribed. I ended up getting 97 I think ball joint knuckles and getting D50 outer. Curious to see how u cut the drivers side.

i sometime wonders why nobody want to extend the short side by cut the tube then length it by using a internal sleeve that fit inside the tubes then weld it up shut so you should have much more room to work with?? similar to this from greatlakes4x4.com

http://www.greatlakes4x4.com/showthread.php?t=67134

Though I would do a write up of sorts on the dana 30 I built.

The goal was to use all easy to get parts, IE stock tj inners. But to also have high steer and lockouts. And not have to build another truss for the driver side uca :stan3: . Started out as a Xj hp 30, you will also need a cj dana 30 for tubes and inner C's, and dana 44 knuckles and hubs.

First cut these off
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y223/madibugsmom/99%20tj/hp30003.jpg

I used the shafts to measure for the amount of tube I needed to leave on the CJ dana 30 knuckles

Cut

Mocked up

I used 2" 1/8" wall dom as a internal sleeve

I am no expert on the axle shafts but I'd image that its possible to get the driver side lengthened to a certain point so that using the 78'/79' driver side inner axle shaft would fit?

Perfect - I'm putting together a 99' D60. Do you have any more pics or info how you cut that much away from the driver's side housing? That looks to have opened up a lot of room on that side, almost 78/79 room.

Do you have the old knuckles?

Great thread. I was wondering if I could make a ballistic hp60 truss work on one of these late model housings. Guess now I'll have to try. I think the big difference between these and the older style is the width of the pumpkin where the tubes press in.

KyleQ
12-14-2009, 11:22 AM
Wow - you guys really hack into the housings on that side. How much material is left to hold the tube true to the pumpkin? Any strength concerns? I'm thinking the Ballistic truss may fit or be slightly modified as you guys are opening up a lot of space next to that pumpkin.

I'm surprised you are able to just cut it off, are there any plug welds or are the tubes just pressed in?

sqrl$$
12-14-2009, 02:26 PM
They are pressed way in. There is more still in the housing than what was cut off. I don't see any strength issues especially since you are welding the brackets back that tie the tube into the housing.

The dimple dies are made by JMR Racing in Ca. And i haven't decided on the filler rod yet. I may tig weld it with NI99 or use my Miller 350P and use it in the spraytransfer mode with ER309L 0.45 . Any thoughts on what filler rod you would use?

Great build thread here. I am doing a ball joint dana 60 swap in my 06 Rubi. I am trying to use my R. E. bellypan.
Few questions
1. What knuckles are you using Solid = Solid manufacturing?
2. Where did you get the high steer arms?
3. Why were you forced to go to the outside of the frame with your lower links?

Keep in mind you can always flip the bracket inside out and do it like this

Yeah, but mines welded! :flipoff2:

That's cause you have a frame. I read somewhere that when you don't have a frame, you don't need to weld them:laughing:

The uni-frame should break before the unwelded bracket. And in your case, the jackstands shouldn't create enough force to break them either, so you'll be find not welding too:flipoff2:

I realize this is probably already under the rig, but why not tie the coil buckets into the inner "C"s? They are pretty close already.

Your drivers side upper link mount, where did you get that from? Or did u make it? I've been looking all over ballistics site and can't find anything like that,

i think it started life as a Ballistic mount, and then was cut down to what you see now.

Can this be done for a WJ? What are the spring perch differences? Did you shorten the passenger side? What suspension are you running in front? What type of steering are you running?

Thanks
