Hello,

I need to get some axles cut down and re-splined. Is there anyone in the Phoenix metro area that can do this? Thank you for your time.

I don't think these guys do resplining, but I bet they know who does.

It's worth a call.

Thanks for the reply. I'll give them a call, and post up what I find out for others looking as well.

Those guys narrowed a 60 front for me and bored out some 60 rear spindles about 8 years ago. They have some sweet old school equipment. It was crazy to see the whole 60 housing spinning in a lathe.

Just got off of the phone with them. They can do it on axle shafts that do not neck down after the OEM spline, meaning the axle shaft has to be the same diameter the entire length; makes sense. He wanted $150.00 per axle. Is that expensive? I've never had something done like this before.

I just got off the phone with them as well. They quoted me $200-$225 for a single 35 spline shaft.

Yes, that is expensive especially when you can buy a new one for less, cut to your length and splined however you want. Are your shafts aftermarket or OEM? Seems the problem with aftermarket shafts (mine is a Currie) is the hardening process applied to the steel. Tooling to cut those is rather expensive and I guess they have to recoup the expense somehow. Apparently re-splining OEM shafts don't have that hardening so its not such a big deal.

Try Gear One in the west valley too. They spline but told me the same thing with regard to hardening.

Damn...

I'll check out Gear One. Thanks for the tip!

Also, I just PM'ed the guy from this THREAD (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=545105) to see if he is still offering this service. He seems to be way more reasonable. We'll see. Hopefully he gets back to me. I'll post up if he does.

Yeah, please do. Right now I'm playing email tag with a guy from Currie. I'll probably wind up shipping it to him later today but we'll see. Thanks.
