I acquired this thing the other day and while it works to a deg, it appears to be missing some parts or hacked a little.
can anyone tell me whats missing on it, what needs to be replaced that's missing and have photos of missing parts? Is anything still available for these things?
Area of attention is the ratchet stud with the nut on it... me thinks this is hacked. The ratchet handle - is there supposed to be something in the bottom hole?
Thaks in advance.

I could see having a dowel in the hole on the handle. It's 180 degrees out from the spring loaded engagement pin. If you put a dowel in the hole, the force on the spring loaded pin is cut in half when you slide it over the teeth of the cog and move the handle. Otherwise, you're putting all of the force on the spring loaded pin.

Well it looks like the hole is just so they can route the long ratcheting rod up in there during assy.
Looks like all I need is one part and I'm good to go.
I which I had a electric winch for my trailer when we go to collect scrappy vehicles but there is always other more important things to pay for first. So manual come-a-long we go.:(

I agree, after I saw the breakdown I did let out a "D'oh!". :homer:
I hate come-along duty. I did a come-along of a wrecked 4000 lb car (with one stuck wheel) up on my trailer, on a black asphalt parking lot in 100 degree weather (back in July).
I'll never do that again. I'm getting a winch. Damn near killed me.
We have a few 3 ton ones just like that at work. Ive never taken one apart though

The washers and nuts on the free wheel selector is a definite hack job. You can see the part that is supposed to be there in the following link. Zoom in on the "Optional Load Limiter" area to see the knob you are missing
