Heard from a friend about a 1980 something model F-350 with a blow motor and weeds growing around it that I might snag cheap. Since its sight unseen what should it have under it...d60/70 combo 60/60 combo? Like said...its sight unseen and the exact year is unknown. Flame on if you feel like it...otherwise thanks for the help and heads up as to what I may be looking at. Thanks.

If it's 1980 til about 1986 it will have the TTB under it most likely. Probably a 70 rear but possibly Sterling. If it is late eighties it will have the HP 60 front. Find out the year for sure before you buy it. You don't want a TTB!!!! :D

50 ttb not 60
Dana 50 TTB for 1980-1985. 1986 is the first year of the return of the Dana-60 HP:D
Rear is odds on going to be a Dana-61, that's right 61.
The Dana -60 only showed up as a semi-floater in a few years (83 1/2).
The Sterling showed up the first time when???????I thought it showed in the mid '80's but I have no info as when it was intro'ed.
The above info is F-350 only,
Eric

It could very well be a TTB D44-HD as well. D44HD = 3800lb-ish front rating, D50 = 4600lb-ish front rating.

I was going to post that this was inaccurate but after checking some sources you are correct sir :flipoff2:
The D-44 HD TTB was availible even on an F-350:eek: :shaking:
Makes no sense but yes it 'could' be a D-44 (sigh...Ford:shaking: )

I think the only true reason he noticed it was the size of the lock outs caught his attention.....but it still might be a 44....Guess if I want it done right I gotta do it myself!!!!
Thanks for all the info!!!

If it was the size of the lockouts that caught his attention, it was probably a TTB D50 under there. The TTB D50 uses the same hubs, rotors, and lockouts as the D60.

FWIW, I have an '85 F350 donor truck with a TTB 50 in the front and a D70 FF in the rear. It's a diesel, don't know if that makes a difference in front axle.
On a side note, anyone know if the outer knuckles from the 50 TTB will fit on the solid axle version of the 50 from the later model Super Duty?
