I am planning to do a 4.3 swap into an 87 4runner but i haven’t figured out which transmission to run. I want to use a manual tranny mated to my dual cases. I have heard many bad things about people using stock Toyota manual transmissions due to breakage, so what would be the best Chevy manual tranny that I could adapt to a toyota t case? Keep in mind this is a street driven truck that is beat on pretty hard on the weekends. I have searched, but come up with very little...

Ive heard and read that you can get the toy cases to mate up to an AX15, Marlin has supposively done it. You can buy the adapter for the 4.3 and AX15

For a 4.3, the Toy 5-speeds will do fine.

I have heard both sides of the argument about whether or not a toyota tranny can handle the extra bit of power the 4.3 puts out. My concern is 1st gear and reverse blowing out. It could just be bad luck, but i am on my 3rd manual after swapping the truck from an automatic. It also seems as if it would be more economical to use a chevy manual tranny with somewhat readily available parts, rather than those made by advance adapters for the toyota to 4.3 setup. (ex. clutch, flywheel, starter..... etc.....) Im looking for a manual that will bolt right up, as well as one that can be adapted to Toyota dualls. Thanks again guys....

you have all sorts of options. SM420 or the SM465 will easily bolt up to your motor. They have a steep 1st gear, 7.05 and 6.54 respectively. Adapters for the t-case are available. Those transmissions have no overdrive though. But they are cheap and easy to come by and damn near bullet proof. GM NV4500 is another option gaining you an overdrive. 1st gear on those is in the 5.6 range if i recall correctly. It's a good stong tranny but pricey and a little more difficult to come by.

For the SM420 you can use an SBC car bellhousing as it has the smaller bore. For the others you would need a truck style bellhousing. Flywheel and clutch options are practically limitless as the 4.3 shares the same components as a small block.

Check Novak and Anvance Adapters. They have everything you need.
