hey everyone my names alex and im new :D my dd is a 01 silverado Z71 with a good bit of mods but its not an offroad machine. recently me and my dad purchased a BRIGHT orange 1990 suburban and we love it. it has roughly 10" of suspension lift, all shackles and springs no blocks, 3" body, 14ff rear, 10b front, carbed goodwrench 350, sm465, np205 and a good lookin interior.

i need some help with the future mods but heres my rough outline. feel free to give your opinion and any help is very appreciated.

d60 swap with ord crossover/ highsteer
3:1 lomax conversion w/ twin stick
frame bracing around the steering box

and somewhere down the road REGEAR! currently it has 3.73 (i know i know its gonna be changed when i get the money) but for simplicity and due to the fact i want to get the 4x4 operational and get it muddy some, im just gonna get a d60 with 3.73 then regear both axles down the road.

but like i said im new here and on all the other forums im on i hear this place is infamous for flaming and ive seen what can happen. and i have to say its hilarious but i hope it wont happen to me :( everyone have a good day

-alex

p.s. ill get pictures of both vehicles if wanted

bright orange- meh it looks better than how i described it
sweet interior- i meant sweet as in not trashed. all original and all in good shape. it has power windows and locks too.

If when and what size tires ya decide to run, this chart should help figure out what gearing to use.

hey man thanks for the link. and no i doubt this will be seeing any rocks anytime soon. however that may change way down the road. mainly just mud pits and muddy trails around here minus URE but i havent been up there-yet.

Looks like it has a shackle flip in the rear. I'd ditch the BL for sure. I have 4" of lift and have 39.5's but I also cut a little off the body to fit.

flatblack83
10-24-2009, 02:08 PM
To give you an idea i have 8 inches of suspention, 3 inches of body with 39.5s and my tires still rub when off roading. What do you plan on building it for crawling or mudding..? perfect height for the mud...lol... one thing i noticed tho with what i have is a little much for hard flexing, it does but the 8 inch springs dont like it. Looks good, body looks pretty nice to hack tho but thats up to you. If you dont take the body lift off atleast move the bumpers up.

BigOrangeBurb
10-24-2009, 05:15 PM
thanks for all the suggestions guys. right now i think the best thing to is gear more towards the mud. as thats all we have out here minus URE. but i never go out there and thats about the only place within reasonable distance. however i am going there next week to hit up some mud pits.

so do you think it'll rub bad if i take off the BL and run 40's? it looks like it would have plenty of room as it towers over the 44's currently.

flatblack83
10-24-2009, 05:28 PM
depends on what size the springs really are....i rub with 8 in susp/3in body and 39.5s and i have cut out flares, if they are 10 inch springs for sure then when flexed they will rub without the bodylift...

10-24-2009, 05:30 PM
well since the previous owner didnt know shit about it since he got it in a trade i dont really know. is there something i can measure to get a close estimate or would pics help or what?

I got a 3:73 60 front complete to the spindles, needs hubs, wheel brgs, and brakes for $500, I also got a drw 60 with 4:10s complete for $750. I've got possible transportation to Brunswick county also. That would hook that burb up right.

Just keep your eyes peeled for a D60 / 14 bolt combo with 4:56 gears. Shouldn't be too hard to find. Swap them in and sell your stuff. I would ditch the body lift as well. Nice clean rig.

I would go as far as to call it pimp if you got rid of the body lift. It looks dumb.

thats what im tryin to do but no one seems to want to check their forsale threads lol. lose body lift, get 40's, and swap in cucv axles with crossover steering is the basic plan.

Dont ever take lift out. . .just put bigger tires. Thats a sweet burban and you sound like your going the right direction to make it strong and lots of fun especially in the mud.

Not everyone wants a crawler and just for the record i have 12 inch lift springs and 40s on my 86 crew cab chev. clears the tires no problem but if i flex it up it stuffs the tires good. those springs move alot more than i even thought they would. just my 2c

I'm sorry but leaf springs shaped like U-bolts don't flex.

Like everyone said, ditch the BL. I would also make sure that the shackle flip in the back is not a hole torched in the bottom of the factory mount with the shackle inverted. If it is, either reinforce it or get the ORD kit.

A front driveshaft is going to be you're first problem with that much lift and no doubler/devorced t-case ;)

Even worse that it has the shortest trans/tcase combo to start with.

Looks good, just not too functional yet.
