: Steering Stablizer or not
slider 09-24-2002, 12:08 PM The little stock stablizer went bad...I figured with the thrashing it was only a matter of time.
I installed this Rancho kit...do I even need it?
Steering with it in the tight woods is killing my arms.
I'm assuming I need something to control some bump-steer...
so I don't break my thumbs!!??
Info:
YJ's
TT cross over steering
33's
NO power steering
on road 30% of the time
So this is the Rancho kit...
ROCKILLER 09-24-2002, 01:35 PM get power steering and keep the stabilizer. your arms are dying from running 33's and no PS on trails. I doubt the stabilizer is hurting you much. it actually probably helps.
Shrock 09-24-2002, 04:20 PM I concur with rockkiller. :D
bobaki 09-24-2002, 06:52 PM I have p/s no stabilizer ,don't miss it but then IGNORANCE IS BLISS....................:D
scott-885 09-24-2002, 06:54 PM Run a stabalizer. I about ripped my fingers off once.
bobaki 09-24-2002, 06:54 PM maybe thats why I'm so happy.........................:D pad,without shame
bobaki 09-24-2002, 06:56 PM 885 is that worw/o p/s................................................. .......:D
slider 09-24-2002, 08:48 PM I guess 885 is talking w/o ps...
doesn't PS act as a bit of a buffer and fight kick-back before it gets to your hands?
bobaki 09-24-2002, 11:24 PM that would be my guess,Slider.........................:D

Gee, maybe you should learn to not hook your thumbs in the steering wheel? I hear that's the ONLY thing they teach you in Jeep 101, but I don't care to try to understand that stuff...
Orionn 09-25-2002, 05:09 AM Keep the steering stabilizer, and ADD power stering.
I know what your arms feel like, it is the tires. even the weak ass kick PS setup helps.

quite right on the thumb hooking, I tore off a few tendons from my left thumb 6 years ago in a motorcycle accident, and the wheel will do the same thing if you hook your thumbs. You DONT want to go through that surgery and 6 weeks in a cast like I did, what a pain in the ass! since then, I never hook even fingers.
zuk88 09-25-2002, 04:56 PM I had the z-link and a rancho and replaced it with a crossover and a stock damper and there was no difference in the feel of the steering....untill I put on the 33"s, you gotta work that wheel on the trail a lot more then with 31"s.:D
Benny 09-27-2002, 09:17 PM My friend removed my stabilzer with a stump, 15 minutes after I got the sami home. I havent had one since, but I sure wish I did.
I know not to put fingers inside the wheel, but it still hurts having the wheel whip out of your grip.
I dont have P/S...
MuddMachine 09-27-2002, 09:43 PM 33 boggers, no stabalizer and no PS, i wish i had PS but i dont.:flipoff2:
slider 09-30-2002, 07:22 AM I met a guy this weekend who burned his arm with a spinning steering wheel!!
raticade 12-03-2007, 12:31 PM with SPOA, is a stock steering stablizer sufficient or something aftermarket a practicle must? also will a S.S. help with steering wheel shaking while driving on pavement at 40+ mph.
thanks
