Drove both the Tritons and the Powerstroke, I picked the 5.4. First few years of V10's had some head issues, yet have friends whom beat the day lights out of thiers and its still running with about 200K if I rightly recall.

nothing better 2 do

i get to drive tons of rigs with my job and every v10 ford i have driven has been a turd they have more power than the v8's but the get horrible mileage and have nowhere near the seat of the pants feel as a diesel does. now that said when i was looking for a new truck for myself i found that you can get those trucks for half the cost of the diesels.

I drive one at work. I am not impressed. Granted my work truck is an f450 with an 8ft flat bed and a crane but that truck feels so gutless going up hills unless I floor it. It also gets shitty mileage.

The early V10's had issues with shooting spark plugs out of the head due to people over torquing the spark plugs, combined with Ford not putting enough threads in the head. :shaking:

The 5.4 was just as susceptible to plowing plugs as the V10. I believe all the Ford modular motors had the same issue to some degree.

As for being gutless...

They are no bombed diesel, but the engine does good for what it is. It likes to rev, and has no problem running at 2500-3000 all day long. This engine really should have been geared 4.11 from the factory, with options of 4.30 and 4.56 gears. I believe the 3.73's shouldn't have even been offered.

As for fuel mileage, it will suck down the fuel while towing. I can get as low as 6 mpg put usually average around 8 mpg towing. But, for the occasional tow rig, I can live with it.
