hello techs,
I need to replace my pick-up in my dist. under the rotor. have 1986 383 w/ 4-pin module (HEI). i've looked around and prices range from $22 (napa) to $80 (AC Delco). Is there a difference in quality? I'm partial to stock GM parts, my engine has alot of aftermarket parts. I would appreciate any recommendations pertaining to HEI coil pick-ups.
thanks, gypsumpete
I would go with the AC Delco.....IMHO:)

You might want to price out a reman distributer for the price of that pick up. No, it probably won't have an AC Delco pickup in it, but all brands fail. With a reman you're going to get a new gear and bushings which can help accurate timing and oil pressure. If you have a lot of miles on the truck this is the way I'd go. Hell...you can buy the ones that fell off a boat from China for $50 on eBay all day long. I'm sure there are better ones on there as well.

what makes you think the pickup is bad?
do you have a tach? is it not working?
is the truck randomly dieing and starting?

Will a faulty module cause random stalling?

can.
what sucks is etheir one can be about 1/2-2/3 the cost of a new dist, if you wind up buying both you would have saved money buy getting a new dist.
i just bought a summit brand new dist, billet base, very shiny, $89.

I got my sizzy from the junk yard for 25$ and been working fine for 2 years. MSD is just blingy IMO. I do how ever like the DUIs
