Aside from the motor bolting pattern, is there a difference between the ass end of a Turbo 400 with regards to the case? I know there will be differences between the output shaft.
I'm doing a little shopping for a future project and want to know how "picky" I should be on the Turbo 400 tranny I get :p

Although I am far from a TH400 expert I can tell you that the TH400 Chevy truck, and all the BOP type car cases all interchange as far as TC mounting. I believe Jeep does as well actually now that I think about a past project.
hope this is sum help

I have a friend with a TH400 in his Jeep J10 and aside from the long 10 spline tailshaft I can't see any difference in the tail end of the case.
If you can use a Chevy bolt pattern case, most of the later cases (79 & newer) are the HD type (commonly referred to as a "K" case) with a thicker converter cover.

Back from the grave and a new related question.
How hard is it to change the output shaft of a TH400? Does it require complete disassembly of the tranny? The one FSM I have wasn't much help :(

Bad news... you'll have to COMPLETELY disassemble the tranny to change the rear output. :(
