Anyone still need to cut their rockwells??
I'll be getting a couple of these when i get around to it.
Lowrangerider 09-24-2002, 02:33 PM How many inches does it save?

From the looks of it, a LOT!
elf_cruiser 09-24-2002, 02:39 PM The site says 1.5" more clearance than a D44...
A normal rockwell is about the same as a 14bolt. So it's like going from a 14bolt, to a D30!!

Sorry, my penis extension doesn't need to be as long as yours does...
jstarnes 09-24-2002, 03:56 PM how much$
elf_cruiser 09-24-2002, 03:59 PM It's $180 plus shipping. A great deal for the amount of work it would take to duplicate that, IMO!

Make sure you get a front locker first :flipoff2:
wrookie 09-24-2002, 04:10 PM Yeah, it's the Avalanche Deuce skid. It is indeed a high quality, heavy duty mutha with some of the prettiest welds I've ever seen. Got a peek at one a couple of weeks ago.... Definietly a good price for the quality.....

66CJdean 09-24-2002, 04:33 PM What size ring gear does a rockwell run?
BTW that does look sweet!

have you ever priced a pair of dana 60's and a pair of rockwells, the obvious answer is no!
Those are some pretty ass welds, I would be tempted to try to shave a rockwell myself expecially now sense you know you have a fix if you F it up
MASTER_of_DISASTER 09-24-2002, 06:11 PM how do they get a weld to look like that?
Is that what spray arc looks like?
Sure doesnt look like it came from co2
rockdawgfj40 09-24-2002, 06:17 PM that is cool:fj:
the welder at work can make welds like that using 25% C02 75% Argon. He says he makes a lil puddle then pulls the gun make a puddle pull the gun etc...

umm what is so hard to understand? you make a lil weld puddle then pull the gun, make a lil weld puddle pull the gun and so forth. btw nice pic.
MASTER_of_DISASTER 09-24-2002, 08:58 PM Ok ive done that same technique. Its just ive never welded anything other than practicing with the argon mix.
I use the "whip it motion" kinda like 6011 where u go forward build a puddle go back a little go forward build a puddle .....
a jackass like me can make a very proffesional looking bead and when u paint it is looks even better.
It just look funny being almost perfectly smooth
This guy was saying that there is a 100% argon where u just haul ass with no movement and make a perfect bead. It used a high wirespeed and amperage.
MR4WD 09-24-2002, 09:09 PM It's the difference between hobbyist and journeyman. That's not just technique, that's experience and technique. Speed down, feed up, steady hand... Anybody who's welded, or welds for their bread and butter can weld like that.

I thought that's how you welded:confused:
BTW thanks on the pic, I found it on some rice forum:D
jeeper111 09-24-2002, 09:34 PM they are not 1.5 inches better clearance than a dana 44. That would be impossible. Everything I have seen sais that cut rockwells are between a nine inch and a 44. Mine are right at the clearance of the nine inch though because I used half inch plate on the bottom. Those are cool but over priced and dont fit my exact application pretty welds or not.
BRUISER-42 09-24-2002, 09:56 PM The Deuce skids have an 1.25" of additional clearence over a stock housing at the Bull gear, being the lowest point.
http://www.avalancheengr.com/Skids/deuce_skids.htm
elf_cruiser 09-24-2002, 10:00 PM OK so how much better is that than a Dana 44?
that's not better than a D44, but ohh well...
It's better than what i got!
BRUISER-42 09-24-2002, 10:12 PM It is as much clearence as we could get without being right up against the Bull gear. There is alot of additional clearence gain at the bearing caps. I have been loging clearences between different axles, and I will post them on the Deuce page when I accumilate enough of them. :)
elf_cruiser 09-24-2002, 10:14 PM thanks Clifton!
Good to see you back on the site, and your not a newbie anymore!

dude, your shit sucks! Give up, your Jeep will never be cool!
btw - what is your "application"? digging trenches in Texas?? BAHAHA!
Toddy 09-25-2002, 07:17 AM I am a welder and have access to all the stuff to make a skid like that. And I think I am gonna call Daniel when I get ready to do my front and order one. I just got done with the rear and dont want the hassle of fitting and welding and checking for leaks and welding and grinding. I like to do it and be done with it and go bash it. And for the tech. on the welding it might be spray arc but with a good machine you can get it set up to do that and just go no back and forth just a steedy pace.
Todd
BrettM 09-25-2002, 10:53 AM any problems anticipated with running less gear lube? I know some guys here run dueces on the highway, though vehicle weight is considerably lower than what they were made for.
