: Is this Correct?

I did a search on Tracker diffs. and have been reading old posts for a couple of hours.
There seems to be a difference of opinions on weather tracker diffs can go into sammy housings.
Who can tell me from personal experiance ?
I want to use the front ring and pinions from Trackers in BOTH the front and rear Sammy diffs. I think that I understand (from reading previous posts) that this can be done. And that for the rear, I need to use the side gears from my sammy instead of the Tracker side gears.
Will this work without buying any more parts?
Thanks,--------No Flames allowed--------;) :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

yes the front tracker carrier will bolt into the front sami housing the rear you need to switch the ring and pinion into your sami carrier using the tube and spacer kit avail. at TT, NCO recomended would be to do the same to the front the tracker aluminum housings have poor oiling to the front bearing and would not take much to crack on a rock hope this helps

:D

I just went to TT site and the only thing that I can find is a ring that appears to go around the carrier that would appear to keep the pins in place. Is this correct?
What would the spacer be for?
Thanks

I believe the Kick ring gear is not as thick as Sami, hence the need for the spacer. I think :D

OK, Correct me if I'm wrong.

Tracker front ring and pinions can bolt into sammy diffs.
BUT-----Shims are needed

Rocky Road
Sidekick/Tracker gear shim. For those looking to install Sidekick gears into their Samurai carriers, these shims are a necessity. The Sidekick gear has a narrower profile than the Samurai gear which means you have to push the entire carrier further into the pinion for proper setup. Our laser cut shim is a drop in piece that allows for proper preload and backlash adjustment of the Sidekick gears.... $5.00

--------And Trail Toughs cans are needed to keep the spider gear pins in place
Cans- Trail Tough's solution to retaining the spider gear shafts when changing to Sidekick/Tracker R&P's.
Item # SRC-400 Price $35.00 each

Yes they can. heres a pic

The Shim goes between the carrier and ring gear.

The Diff can goes around the carrier to hold the spider gear pins in place.

DougO,

I was gonna do this swap but reliazed by the time you get done screwing around with the r&p kit, new crush sleeves ect and finding the tracker diffs i was only 100 bucks shy of getting 4:1 gears and doing it right :)

Hi -

Our $35.00 diff pin retaining can also includes a custom machined side adjuster which eliminates the need for a shim.

Would you run FRONT gears in the rear!! buy the front and rear gears, and put them in thier proper places. you'll get a better wear pattern this way and should be stronger than a front gear in the rear.:D

they do work, but you may break them anyhow depending on alot of factors, but hey go for it!!!:flipoff2:

Are the front tracker r&p not as strong as the rear sammy r&p?

Orionn,
You can't run the Sidekick rear parts in the Sam - the ring gear/3rd member is all a lot bigger. I have heard of folks running the whole 'Kick 3rd member, but the aluminum housing isn't as strong.
Since Dale already has a 4-1 t-case, he has already "done it right" and still wants more gears.
Dale, you could do a rear Kick axle swap ( Dale is looking at a set of Kick 3rds I have ) - I have two fronts, a rear, and whole rear axle, the advantage is you get the bigger rear Kick axle, - the disadvantage is the centered rear diff - although some folks on the POR are saying they get by ok, and I happen to know you don't do highway miles much at all, so might not notice the vibration at all.

I read my own post, it is a bit confusing.

More clearly: the Sidekick rear 3rd is too big for the Sam.
"folks running the whole 'Kick 3rd member"....are using the front assembly from 'Kick.

sometimes I even confuse myself ;)

I did it, as it was the least expensive way to get my rig to Zookiemelt 2001, and to get it going again as I drove it semi daily. If your locked and want to do rocks, I dont reccomend it, if you just play in trails with nothing too agressive it should be ok.

I was just farting around on some rocks at ZM 2002, and broke 3 axles(2 carriers ruined) and a driveshaft .. though I expected it, as it was only zuk front axles with rings and the sidekick rears

OK, no problem, thanks for clearing that up for me. that will save me some cash then, I was going to do the swap.

Can someone answere this then, running the Front gears in the rear, dont you stress the teeth differently on the R/P?

Diffs are new territory for me, so I am learning as I go, thanks.:D
