Found a '96 Disco I think SE7. Has 86k, OME HD springs, 31 BFG AT's, roofs, auto, leather, never wrecked, clean minus the dash peeling. Is $9200 worth it for that model? Yes, I have searched, and yes I have read that that year is a "dog". I gather that is a reasonable price, and would pick it up if the lower cost compensates "sensor chasing" or other problems that are more or less superficial. Is it also a given that the valves are problematic, or just on the early '96? My mechanical ability is about 4 banana, and I would be interested in this vehicle as a DD, and as a capable trail rig. I have a solid axle 4runner and if anyone can relate toyota tech to this vehicle it would be much appreciated. I estimate this post will bring 60% flamage.

in all honesty i dont think that you can compare it to a toyota. way different build, much worse reliability, etc.

if you can deal with rust my friend has an AWESOME range rover for sale for 10k.

1988my
safarigard f/r bumpers
warn 10k winch
TONS of hella lights (all nice ones, 4000s, etc)
HD 4 pin rear diff (open) with HD 24 spline axleshafts
several sets of tires
all new transmission (4spd auto)
stainless steel roof rack
etc etc etc

but now for the best part-

totally BUILT JE 4.5L V8 motor. 325hp, almost 400 ft lbs of torque. it FLIES!!! brand new motor a few years ago.

plus lots and lots of little mods that make it truly sweet.

like i said though, the only issue is body rust. the frame is kinda nasty too, but the bodyshell is really bad.

here is a pic-

Truck is worth 5-7k

Just bought my 96 (78k, 5 speed, 7 seats, one nice lady driver, new brakes, but with leaks) for 5k, important to make sure the 30 and 60 k services were done or you might be looking at trans/t-case problems.

I wouldn't pay more than 7k for that truck. The transfer case could be a problem, and also the valves. My 96 Disco has treated me well with a few exceptions. If you would like to see it, you can go to LR Chatt, and see it. I drenched the computer and am waiting for a chip to come it. Is the one with Camel stickers on it, and a drivers' side window that is rolled down (due to broken door handle)
