I just bought a new gun safe and was loading some things into it last night and I noticed that it's pretty damn hard to get the mag on my XDM .40 to engage when there's a full 16 rounds in it. If you pull 1 round out it's fine but with 16 it's a PITA and getting the mag out is hard as well, this is all without a round in the chamber. To be honest I don't know if I've ever fully loaded the mags before so I never noticed this problem. It's the same with both mags.
Is this normal?

As Chris said, just shoot it. To make it easier until broken in, lock slide back, insert magazine, drop slide, shoot.

Similar exp. w/ glock and fn mags. Spring stiffness tends to layoff after some shooting and reloading. Rounds seat a little easier (and lower) mags seat easier.

Run some rounds through it to let those mag springs cycle and break in a little. The mag springs in my G26 were stiff as fawk for the first few runs through the gun.

I got the same gun new in late aug and it was exactly the same way. Mag release is also hard when its full. After about 5-700 rounds it smoothed out real nice. Im about about 900-1000 with it now and no FTF/FTE yet.
What do you think about the trigger? Im not a fan but some people like it.

I own this XDM .40 and an XD 9mm, aside from that I really haven't fired too many other handguns more than a couple rounds. I grew up with a small firing range in the back yard but it was all rifle shooting where I grew up. The trigger feels fine to me, I wouldn't know what good/bad feels like honestly. I've put about 400 rounds through it and when I pull it she fires and hasn't given me trouble yet so I guess I like it. :laughing:
