: 1.6 in sammy
jimnymn 09-24-2002, 06:14 PM I have a 1.6 EFI hopefully going into 87 sammy now the question. I have the wire harnees up to the fire wall, have the adpt kit, and new clutch, getting computer from 1.6. What and were do I have to splice the 1.6 into the 1.3 harness? Also I have the Haynes repair manual for samuri/sidekick.
tZUKnami 09-24-2002, 06:25 PM Is it an 8 vale 1.6 EFI? If so, Look here:

I've done the swap using this as a guide. I used the haynes manual too though. I suggest taking all the wrapping off of the tracker wiring harnes and seperate the computer wires from all the rest. You will only have to cut a few wires to seperate the two parts. I know off hand that includes the power to the computer, check engine light and the tach signal. I'll go outside now and see if I can get some wire colors for you. What year is your engine from? Does it have a speed sensor? :D
Oh ya
:flipoff2: :flipoff2: Welcome Newbie:flipoff2: :flipoff2:
jones 09-24-2002, 07:32 PM Newbie posted and took off. Anyway I used an early Efi system with no speed sensor. This makes the swap easier. I started by hanging the Tracker harness from the roof by the computer plugs and started unwrapping from there. As I said, not many wires have to be cut to seperate the Efi from the junk. These are the wires that must be spliced into the existing harness. For my application they were as follows:
white-constant battery power with inline 15 amp fuse
black/white-power when ignition is on with a 15 amp fuse
pink-fuel pump
black/blue power when ignition is on with a 15 amp fuse
black/yellow-power on start position of ignition
purple/yellow-check engine light
*Note when the check engine light comes on power does not come through this wire.Ground does.Constant power must be connected to the other side of the light.
blue/yellow-ground to get trouble codes from computer
Here is a pic of my EFI wires seperated from the rest

Here the junk left over

Once I had all my wiring hooked up it wouldn't start and the check engine light wouldn't come on. I figured out the check engine light as noted above first. This allowed me to ground the blue and yellow wire, making the check engine light blink the trouble codes. it turned out my coil wasn't hooked up. i fixed it and it fired right up. Man what a good day that was. Anyway I love my 1.6. Good luck.:D
mini4by 09-25-2002, 05:36 AM Hey cool somone use my link!! WOOOHOO
Any feedback on it? I have been hoping that someone might offer any help on making it THE EFI swap guide.
BTW I also have the wiring diags for the tracker too.
WARNING: THEY ARE BIG!!! Sorry dialuppers..

scwafish 09-25-2002, 05:50 AM Thay is some quality tech...but if I was you I'd run old mtorcycle carbs, they are the way of the future! jk..thats the best efi info I've seen.
jones 09-25-2002, 10:18 AM Scwafish, my friend ran the ninja carbs on a 1000cc engine from an SJ. There are no EFI options when you're running that engine.:D
jimnymn 09-26-2002, 05:52 PM The engine is a 96 16 valve.
jimnymn 09-26-2002, 06:04 PM what uses the speed sensor. Will the enginge run with ou it?
mini4by 09-27-2002, 08:34 AM the 16v is a totally different animal.. none of my info pertainsl.
Brent will pop a speed sensor in your cluster for about $50. Maybe other will too?

I know that this is old but.......
What "existing harness" were you talking about? The 1.3 harness? I am very dumb when it comes to engines so please forgive my stupidity just this one time.
jones 07-23-2003, 04:25 PM I'll help any way I can, but yes I was talking about the 1.3's harness.:D
NC Zuk 07-23-2003, 05:12 PM ok, just checking. So is it really as easy as you made it seem? I mean I'm gonna do it if it is. I actually like wiring, not afraid of it at all. Let me know!!
NC Zuk 07-23-2003, 07:07 PM Well I just bought it. 1.6 8v, efi, ecm, calmini adapter w/motor mounts, and complete tracker harness
400.00 :D
FJ40Dude75 07-23-2003, 07:32 PM so what about the 16 valve I am doing that conversion now and dont want to just stuff all that mess of wires under my dash any tips?
jones 07-23-2003, 07:38 PM All I can suggest for a 16V is seperate the computer's wires from the rest and take notes for us.:D
NC Zuke. Check your PMs.:D
