the axle yoke, i was cleaning the frame and o pulled my self using the d-shaft and then i noticed the movement of the yoke it moves all around so my first thought was the nut is loose.

stock axle 12 bolt

GM12 bolt needs a pinion bearing preload crush sleeve. To do it right, the whole axle needs to come apart and a new crush sleeve installed to set the preload. Get a new nut and seal while you are in there. Check the bearings, they might be worn out too.

If you are not going to preload the bearings to the proper inch pound indicator with a new crush sleeve, then just tighten the nut until the yoke does not move up and down. Start saving for a diff rebuild kit or a 14 bolt swap.
