ok so my welding skills stop at grade 11 so is a 140 amp stick welder appropriate to weld spring hangars to my frame and for tube bumpers and such i know stick is for deeper penetrations of thicker metals but will a stick produce beefier stronger welds or just burn holes in my frame ? should i be looking at a 220v mig instead ? thanks for the help :D

if you know what you are doing you can weld with STICK on a frame... and many other thicknesses... however, it doesn't sound like you have that exp.
I'd go MIG ;)

I don't know what grade 11 is but you can use stick if you have to. Mig would be best for appearance, less clean up. Both will produce strong welds.

Stick is more forgiving of lack of experience than MIG. With MIG it's really easy to get good looking welds that are worthless.
I'd save the money you'd spend on a MIG welder and put it towards consumables and scrap steel and learn to use your stick welder.
If you learn to weld stick it will be a lot easier to learn MIG if you later want one.

The greatest , most expensive welder in the world will produce crappy welds with a crappy operator.
Practice with what you have and you will develop the skills to make beautiful, strong welds with any welder.

You can practice all you want but if you don`t have the basic skills .
How do you have any idea you are doing it the correct way or the best or easiest way.
Like me and computers :shaking:
A person showed up to take a welding test in Mig and was trying to strike the arc with a match strike like in stick. When it didn`t work They said your welder must be broke.
