: Did JU start charging to post?
Steve N 09-24-2002, 07:56 PM Or is there a buy two get one free at Pirate deal going on????
If you are wondering why your post is gone, singled out or made fun of it might be time to check the mission statement again.
Will a chrome diff cover make my rig look :rainbow: I mean I like my ass to be all shiny and shit.
THIS IS NOT JU!!!!!!
There is nothing wrong with JU, for JU posts (really) but this aint it. don't like it go else where.
Travis Waldher 09-24-2002, 08:24 PM I think Pirate needs to sue JU. They are forcing the people that are trying to learn out it sounds like. They come here for help since there isn't many places left out there and get flamed.
This isn't the place to ask things like, how do I know what gear ratio I have, Is 4.10 and 4.11 gears ok together.
Maybe, how about this.
Can Lance start a forum called: "JU Refuge"? I mean.. maybe givem someplace to go without filling our other forums full of simple questions this BB wasn't meant to deal with.
That wasn't a JU bash, I'm all for people that want to learn to learn. But DAMN, the people in charge of JU now seem to be fawking things up for everyone real good.
bigjeepinYJ 09-24-2002, 08:24 PM Steve,
I was getting ready to ask you to post the mission statement not 2 seconds before I hit refresh and saw this post. I mean it is out of control. What the hell almost every post you see made this week is a newbie and the older guys seem to have slowed in posthing due to the grade school level questions.
Two Words to all newbies "Fawkin Search":flipoff2:
Steve... now you went and did it... I had to come in here and see what the deal is... and now I will have to go over to JU and find out what the deal is over there... thanks buddy :p
Steve N 09-24-2002, 08:36 PM I'm trying to keep up it's going to get bumpy again hang in there guys. Check the mission statement It's reopen for version 2.
Damn dude my ass is starting to look fat with 33" tires.

AthlonAJ 09-24-2002, 09:15 PM Pirate is what it is and I'd hate to see a new forum opened up just on account of people not using their God given grey matter and using the search button.

Not going to happen. Don't worry. It's been vetoed long before this.
MattS 09-25-2002, 12:05 AM BTT
I like JU I ask stupid questions there. Some people need to follow a good example. :flipoff2:
Just when I was ready with a bunch of 8.8 questions! Damn moderators. ;)
Benji 09-25-2002, 04:52 AM Hey guys my 8.8 is leaking again...what is the source of the problem!? :) :flipoff2:
Jakesteramalamajama 09-25-2002, 05:16 AM Maybe there should be some sort of time-delay on Newbies posting...
Example:
They'd have to wait two weeks after registration before they can post. That'd cut down on a lot of the knee-jerk questions and (hopefully) Newbies would learn the ropes a little better before posting... Let 'em reply, just not post.
If this was made known to potential Newbies before they completed registration, it'd weed out a lot of the Newbies who just wanna ask one (stupid) question and then never come back cause they got burned so bad in all the flames, thereby freeing up a little server space perhaps...

DING, DING, DING!!!
We have a winner!
Awesome Idea :D I think that this would work..... What do you think Steve?
bigdude 09-25-2002, 09:33 AM Looks like Welby invited all his friends
Just tell me who you're looking at and I'll choke 'em out :flipoff2:
whodat 09-25-2002, 09:39 AM This is exactly what happened to JU. Started out as a good tech forum (at least for the ZJs, dunno about the other guys) then there was a huge influx of newbies asking the same stuff over and over, then lotsa people with actual knowledge got tired of it and left. Now it's mostly newbies asking ventvisor questions.
whodat
IndyCJ 09-25-2002, 09:52 AM I think it might be a good idea to not allow anyone to purchase a red star until their 'probationary' period is up.
I've seen quite a few 'newbies' that have ponied up their 20 bucks (a good thing) but then take the newbie name out to something custom, but still ask a newbie question.
Just a thought.
scottv 09-25-2002, 09:55 AM well
Normally you can tell by the number of post's (not always though) if they are a newbie to some degree:rolleyes:
MellowYellow 09-25-2002, 10:21 AM You can always tell by the member number, unless it is a person that lost their log in and had to re-register, but they don't usually ask newbie questions.
The registration, then a waiting period is a good idea, but another idea could be an emial with the buy laws and an agreement form. You must agree to certain conditions before signing up and one of those agreements would be to learn how to use the search function.
I'd like to see less of the "ban him" stuff. Maybe each time this happens either answer the question when you are board, or ONE person tell them to search. That way the post will disappear.
My 0.02
1988YJ 09-25-2002, 11:37 AM The newbie questions are pretty obvious... even if they have 500 posts:flipoff2:
moveaside 09-25-2002, 12:51 PM I'm probably one of the people your talking about here's and idea anyhow. What takes up the most bandwidth pics right:confused: Well the amount of posts or pics can be limited until after 1000 posts or so. Another is just set up the site that when someone goes to post there first time it immediately goes to the Jeep Mission Talk Statement and you have to review it before it will let you post. Kinda like when your trying to download something and you have to read the legal mumbo jumbo just a thought

I don't think it is an issue of bandwidth, more of an issue of just tired of reading the same old junk day after day.
beerisgood 09-25-2002, 02:48 PM Chrome diff covers will get you through anything right?
SEriously, everybody on here sans a few people were newbies at one point, but I can see where the old timers could get a little tired about answering 8.8 axel questions all year long.

Slagburn 09-25-2002, 05:14 PM Hey bigdude, I was just checking out your sig and I think you're missing something.
You'd be slamming hella harder with a cap on there!
Also, I heard you might want to hold on before picking up those 31's, there's a group buy going down on them real soon! ;)

Damage, Inc. 08-14-2003, 12:26 PM Something all of you should consider--each and every noob that you alienate/flame/ban/whatever, is one less guy that's going to click on the sponsor's banners.
(Don't get me wrong here--it cracks me up when you guys get to flaming people--and often-repeated questions should be dealt with quickly.)

I'm an exception to that rule for the most part. I lurked here for quite a while before actually posting. That and I've been wheeling for years, learning quite a bit before digging into my current project. So far, I've gotten all the parts, made all the plans, assembled my long block and pulled the stock axles without having to ask more than one or two detail questions about waggy springs (but only cause I was too lazy to go out and use my own tape measure... :flipoff2: )
And yes, I am a JU refuge. I still get on over there now and again when I'm bored at work and want to play with the trolls.
If you really want to send the newbies somewhere, send them over to places like www.rockcrawler.com, www.ilovejeeps.com or www.jeepbbs.com. They're a lot more newbie friendly.
P&T Jeeps 08-14-2003, 09:41 PM derf, you don't have to defend yourself. we were all newbies once. here's the rule's to fit in:
1. don't post dumb shit
2. don't cry if you thought your post was not dumb shit, but others did, and let you know how dumb it was
that's about it... :flipoff2:

But sometimes it's just fun to post dumb shit just to yank someon'e chain. :rasta:
And if I got my undies in a twist every time someone says I'm full of shit, I'd be able to make diamonds in about a week...
Oh yea, and I just asked like my third question since I found a smoking deal on an SM465 for my project rig. Now I just have to figure out the best way to get it connected to my AMC 360...
