There is nothing wrong with JU, for JU posts (really) but this aint it. don't like it go else where.

I think Pirate needs to sue JU. They are forcing the people that are trying to learn out it sounds like. They come here for help since there isn't many places left out there and get flamed.

This isn't the place to ask things like, how do I know what gear ratio I have, Is 4.10 and 4.11 gears ok together.

Maybe, how about this.

Can Lance start a forum called: "JU Refuge"? I mean.. maybe givem someplace to go without filling our other forums full of simple questions this BB wasn't meant to deal with.

That wasn't a JU bash, I'm all for people that want to learn to learn. But DAMN, the people in charge of JU now seem to be fawking things up for everyone real good.

I was getting ready to ask you to post the mission statement not 2 seconds before I hit refresh and saw this post. I mean it is out of control. What the hell almost every post you see made this week is a newbie and the older guys seem to have slowed in posthing due to the grade school level questions.

Maybe there should be some sort of time-delay on Newbies posting...

Example:

They'd have to wait two weeks after registration before they can post. That'd cut down on a lot of the knee-jerk questions and (hopefully) Newbies would learn the ropes a little better before posting... Let 'em reply, just not post.

If this was made known to potential Newbies before they completed registration, it'd weed out a lot of the Newbies who just wanna ask one (stupid) question and then never come back cause they got burned so bad in all the flames, thereby freeing up a little server space perhaps...

This is exactly what happened to JU. Started out as a good tech forum (at least for the ZJs, dunno about the other guys) then there was a huge influx of newbies asking the same stuff over and over, then lotsa people with actual knowledge got tired of it and left. Now it's mostly newbies asking ventvisor questions.

I think it might be a good idea to not allow anyone to purchase a red star until their 'probationary' period is up.

I've seen quite a few 'newbies' that have ponied up their 20 bucks (a good thing) but then take the newbie name out to something custom, but still ask a newbie question. :rolleyes:

Normally you can tell by the number of post's (not always though) if they are a newbie to some degree:rolleyes:

You can always tell by the member number, unless it is a person that lost their log in and had to re-register, but they don't usually ask newbie questions.

The registration, then a waiting period is a good idea, but another idea could be an emial with the buy laws and an agreement form. You must agree to certain conditions before signing up and one of those agreements would be to learn how to use the search function.

I'd like to see less of the "ban him" stuff. Maybe each time this happens either answer the question when you are board, or ONE person tell them to search. That way the post will disappear.

What takes up the most bandwidth pics right:confused: Well the amount of posts or pics can be limited until after 1000 posts or so. Another is just set up the site that when someone goes to post there first time it immediately goes to the Jeep Mission Talk Statement and you have to review it before it will let you post. Kinda like when your trying to download something and you have to read the legal mumbo jumbo just a thought

I'm an exception to that rule for the most part. I lurked here for quite a while before actually posting. That and I've been wheeling for years, learning quite a bit before digging into my current project. So far, I've gotten all the parts, made all the plans, assembled my long block and pulled the stock axles without having to ask more than one or two detail questions about waggy springs (but only cause I was too lazy to go out and use my own tape measure... :flipoff2: )


And yes, I am a JU refuge. I still get on over there now and again when I'm bored at work and want to play with the trolls.

If you really want to send the newbies somewhere, send them over to places like www.rockcrawler.com, www.ilovejeeps.com or www.jeepbbs.com. They're a lot more newbie friendly.
