Ok, I am curious how many people are running full hydro off of a stock cherokee steering pump and how you like. I personally have run full hydro for 8 years. However, this has always been with a "p" pump on a SBC..I am helping a friend revamp his cherokee and he purchased a PSC setup. After looking at how high the stock pump mounts on his engine, 4.0 liter, I don;t see mounting the PSC reservoir high enough to allow gravity to feed the pump without going through hood. Which he does not want to do. Since the stock pump does have an external reservoir , smaller than the psc remote reservoir, I am curious how those running the stock pump like it?
thanks for the input.

My res line is at a pretty steady downward angle to the pump. I had to notch the inner part of my hood, but not actually cut a hole at all.
My reservoir just clears the hood. Its been working great for 5 years now.

From the looks of it you have the PSC set-up. Is this correct?
His Jeep is a 98 XJ ( the square style cherokee) and his pump seems to mount really high. Higher than what yours looks like in the picture..But, the picture just may be deceiving from the angle.
Thanks for the photos guys.

I would still like to know how the stock pump would hold up. about to do this to an 87 using a surplus center double ended ram. 2.5x8x1.5. its the same size ram i run on my cj, came from P.O.S. but im running one of his pumps also.
I've been running the stock TC pump with piggyback reservoir on my ZJ for a year now. No problems. New poppet and flow control valve is the only mod to the pump.

x2. I wonder how this would work. I have a PSC system now...but might revert back to a modded stock pump if my PSC TC pump explodes. I'm just concerned that with a 2.5" ram...it will be slower than cold molasses.

There are way too many rigs to count who run full hydro or hydro assist on XJ's, ZJ's, and TJ's with the stock style TC pump and remote revervoir and stock hood.
It'll work, just mount the reservoir as high as you can.

Stock worked fine for me as well.
They're also easy to source in a local JY, if they go down on the trail.

Through a cooler.

Into a remote res. setup on the other side of the bay and back to the stock reservoir.
Mounted it level with the top of the stock res. so it wouldn't overflow through the vented stock cap on the other side, and so I could fill it from either side.
