I have a 1996 Chevy 2500 Suburban with the 454tbi.

It leaks. A lot. I know it leaks power steering fluid, but it appears that it doesnt just leak in one spot. Looking at the ground under it after I park it...i have a spot under the steering box (I know they are notorious for blowing that seal out...so i need a good source for a rebuild kit (chain store?)), I have a spot underneath the front of the oil pan (could be blowback off of the power steering while driving), and I also have several smaller spots that accumulate under there getting slightly larger over time (front of motor and front driver side mainly with the oil pan area dripping too (rear main seal?...god i hope not).

I'm not sure where else there could be leaks in this thing...but the brakes also arent that great which leads me to believe that there is a hydroboost issue as well.

Its hard to pinpoint the leaks bc there is just splatter all over the driver side of the motor from the power steering fluid that is everywhere.

Any ideas as to why this thing just dumps fluid out all over the place? This is my first Chevy (im a toyota guy) and I dont know what the problem areas are on these things nor where there are good sources for parts (if its anywhere different than chain parts stores).

Thanks in advance!

start by resealing the p/s pump get pump reseal kit from local parts store
adjust rear drum brakes
clean good and try to find were the other leaks are coming from
rear main seals are pretty good if it has the one piece rear main seal

i had to replace the hydroboost on my 94 k2500 sub because it leaked and then quit working. it was hard to tell where the leak was coming from by the puddles on the ground or the oil in the engine compartment, i had to clean the engine compartment real good and then check it after a short drive. i also had some ps fluid on the inside of the firewall behind the carpet from the hydroboost. luckily the hydroboost is an easy fix.

later i had to replace the ps pump, the teenager took the suburban for a joyride when the wife and i were out of town, i dont know what the hell he did, but he fucked it all up. if you do need to replace the pump, dont just slap it on there, fill it up and drive off, you will find yourself replacing it again, because that will blow the seal out of the front of it. you need to bleed it (just like the directions say!)

thanks guys.

Im gonna clean it up really good and keep an eye on it and then start trying to tackle the leak (i think its probably only one leak...its just been leaking so long there is fluid everywhere)
