I searched. Several threads. Bluesman2a had some cool pics of projects.

Using a JD2 Model 3. Having a hard time w the work pullng thru the strap, making it difficult to align a bend line and keep it there. I cinched the bolt for the strap but it didn't help much. I am using the milled/notched plate provided w the die set, maybe I shouldn't? Maybe if the bolt directly hits the work it'll keep it in place better?

I should note if you haven't seen the square tube dies you might be best to not respond; the strap setup is considerably different than round tube.

edit: bending 1.5" sq x .120 w 5.5 radius

D60,

I have that exact same setup on the dies, and have bent 1.5" .120 wall tube before. I've never noticed any slip, but frankly, all my projects thus far have been only single bends (alignment not critical, like in a hoop).

I will say that when I put it in the strap, I crank the shit outta that bolt. On mine there is a galled spot where that bolt goes into the plate they provide. Dumb question, is the plate constructed so that it'll sit down ON the tube when you tighten the bolt? Maybe manufacturing defect? I know the plate that's used for my 1.5" and my 1" square dies is SLIGHTLY different (visually you can't tell the difference from 5').

Some pics perhaps of what's happening?

Are you using any type of high shear strength lube on the follow bar?

I have a ProBender and use a Pro Tool 105 1" square tube die. There is no way in hell the bolt alone will keep the tube in place.

In the instructions that came with my square die it said that I may have to put a clamp on the tube butted up to the block on the U strap to prevent slipping.Or to go as far as tacking a small block to the work piece to keep it from slipping.

Well on mine the block didnt stick out far enough to get a C clamp on the tube and butted up against that bottom block. So I extended the block a bit with a piece of 1/2" so I could get a clamp on it.

In most cases the slipping wouldnt be a big deal. But I bend stuff in pairs most of the time so they have to be fairly close.
