: Baja 1000 4 times in a row? is it possible in a station wagon?
Shaffers Offroad 10-30-2009, 12:01 PM Well, it's about that time of year again. Shaffer's Offroad is prepping the 3 time consecutive Baja 1000 winning jeepspeed for it's run at 4 in a row. Our competition seems to step it up every year, so we've raised the bar even higher and are giving it 110%.
We all know the Filarski's have more motor than the rest of the field, and with those bad ass shocks he runs, tuned by none other than washed up trophy truck driver Ron Stobaugh himself, they should be a force to be reconed with.
And of course none of this would be possible without the help of these companies!

Of course I won't post pictures of "all" the details, some secret's are best kept that way, i'd hate to see some rastafarian bro in a peach jeep attempt to duplicate our winning technology :flipoff2:

They have been running a hybrid Toyota/Jeep front diff for a few years now. Pretty sick set up.
Shaffers Offroad 11-02-2009, 11:16 AM Do I spy a Toyota front diff ???
Yea. We built the first one of these 3 years ago. Toy V6 center, with 30sp cro-mo shaft's, and D30 outers. it's twice as strong, and weighs less than building a trussed D30, and a ton lighter than using a D44 in the front. And with a 9in rear, we can match the toyota gear ratio's. We've built a few of these over the ast few years for other teams also.
Dirt-Fab 11-02-2009, 07:26 PM Mike,
What does the complete axle weigh in at WMS to WMS w/ calipers?
Good luck fawkers :smokin:

I'd be interested in one of these axles. I wonder how much more the D44 axle tubes and C's would weigh over the D30?
I'm running a Currie 9 in the back with 6.13 gears (ax-15 tranny). Could I run 6.13 in a Toy center and make it live?

a waggy 44 is the closest axle we had width wise to compare from, and it was substancial! It's been a long time now, so the number's aren't just popping in my head. but 80# seems to ring a bell.
the toy axle only had a 5.29 that matches the 9in 5,29 and a 5.71 ratio that works with the 5.67 and 5.75 (discontinued) ratios.
so your 6.13's aren't going to work :( we run the 5.29 combo because of the toyota pinion strength vs the 5.71.
onetoncv 11-03-2009, 08:45 PM Better make sure you get toy oem Joints for that diff -1310 sucks bad-Good luck -Jess

The Filars are running 5.38's in the front high pinion 44 (they've broken about everything on the car BUT the axles or gears) and our often overlooked 9" 5.37 Motive Gear AX gears in the back. Has been a good combination.
Shaffers Offroad 11-12-2009, 03:50 PM Well, now that the flyin filarski's have finished there rig, and taken it out and tuned on a short course, graded track  we decied it's about time to show off the real secret's of our prep.
Shaffers Offroad 11-12-2009, 03:54 PM and with the finishing touches applied.
Installed 4 Vision X 55w HID's on the roof and a 42in X-Mitter bar on the front bumper.
New coat of metallic grey paint. we figured since the Filarski's went back to the color they lost with in 06, we'd go back to the color we beat them with
New BFG Baja's with Staun's inside.
All new Motive Gear's with ten Factory Axles
Some new drivetrain and body part's from J&W auto wreckers
All topped with fresh new Amsoil fluids
All new PSC Steering Componants
Freshly Rebuilt & Tuned Radflo Shocks
Rubicon Express Suspension Parts
The new Super High HP Titan Engine, with Custom head work by Douglas Machine
and those ever so comfortable Twisted Stitch Seats.
And of course, all the support received from Torchmate!
