: Any suggestions for a V-10 Excursion exaust?
Scout-n-Josh 10-30-2009, 02:49 PM Anyone modify their Excursion V-10 exaust system? Here is my thinking....bare with me....cut out the muffler and install a straight pipe?? Anyone do this? I'm looking for a deep throaty tone, but I have heard that can not be accomplished with a V-10, people say it's high pitched....true er no? What would it take to get a nice sounding exaust? If there is already a link, please let me know, I've searched and didn't find chit. Thanks. Here's my 2002 junk:

Elvis38 10-30-2009, 03:42 PM Maybe go find a Viper forum? I've heard of them having a dual muffler setup.( 2 on each pipe, not dual exhaust:flipoff2:)
travisford83 10-30-2009, 03:51 PM I'm running a 3.5" magnaflow muffler....I forget exactly which one but it sounds okay. Performance wise I noticed a little more power but nothing to brag about. I chose the magnaflow because it was cheaper than a flow master and I was hoping for a different sound than a flow master. It is still a little higher pitched than a v-8 but sounds better than a dodge v-10
When I had my 01 superduty (5spd if it matters) I split the pipe after the cat and ran dual 3" with 4" tips. It sounded ok to me, better than factory, but no one is gona mistake it for a v8. The best way I know how to describe it is somewhere between the sound of a v6 and v8.
It seems to me the bigger the pipe the deeper the tone, but good luck finding someone that will bend anything bigger than 3".
zainyD 10-30-2009, 06:16 PM I wouldn't run without a muffler personally, especially in light of state equipment laws.
three60fish 10-30-2009, 09:11 PM Don't go straight pipe....
i have a 70 series big block II flowmaster on my dodge V10. Now the redneckthat had it before me cut off the cats and I can't afford to put new ones on so I'm running only the muffler, it's dual in dual out and overall I like it. Decent throaty sound, but it is kinda a wierd sound. I'd imagine that an x-pipe would do my exhaust some good too though.
f250rollinon37s 10-30-2009, 09:58 PM first get rid of the factory Y pipe in front of the cat - it sucks, any good muff shop can make a good one. a nice muff with the factory Y wont help. i like the 70BB that flowmaster has for the v10. but i have seen a 40 series that was 3.5" that sounded good to me. its true it will never soound like a BB v8 due to the design, think more british sports car at higher revs, but a typical flowmaster v8 at or near idle
FORDTECHGURU 11-01-2009, 09:15 PM x2 on the front y-pipe deal, and spintech mufflers sound good on the v10, get the really long one in 3.5"
1sicbronconut 11-01-2009, 11:07 PM Yup on the y pipe also, I bought some stainless headers off ebay that seemed to help on my 2001 V10 250 also.
Scout-n-Josh 11-02-2009, 07:47 AM Thanks for the replies! I'll start by ditching the factory y and going with a Flowmaster 40 or 70bb. I just might go with the headers right away too seeing as how I'm going to have to replace my manifold bolts anyway.
bowtied_micky 11-02-2009, 09:35 AM the way the v10 fires, it sounds like a ricer with a pass through muffler on it. look at a cherry bomb or flowmaster with the chambered design, they sound good with those.
hperiman 12-25-2009, 06:31 PM If you can swang it, the Banks kit sounds good. They are proud of them but made me a good deal. The guy a Banks told me not to waste my money on headers for this engine. He said there tests reveald little improvement with several different headers. One of the best exhaust mods is to get rid of the rediculous Y pipe. I was told Ford designed that way to get ride of a weird noise the exhaust made. So as far as my $0.02 I would buy the Bank cat back again. I have over a foot of snow here or I would post a bid for you.
