Can you identify this carrier?? I won the auction for this carrier and it does not seem to be a D44 carrier and gears when I compared it to the D44 carrier I took out of a Scout front axle. The seller insists it is a D44 carrier. Also, the pinion, which was not pictured, has a crush collar on it and I have been told that no regular D44 ever used a crush collar.

Please help. Thanks for all informed opinions.

Duhhh, I forgot to post the link. Thanks Oxjockey.
Here it is (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1854645656&rd=1)

I've only seen a few D44's apart - 2 scout, 2 waggoneer, an RC Ford front and an XJ rear....none had crush sleeves. For what that's worth.

Pics???

If I am remembering correctly, it doesn't look like a 44 carrier to me. I have a few laying around in the yard and they definitely look different.

Too open to be a Dana 44, if you can remove the cross pin without taking off the ring gear, it's no Dana 44. Looks like 12 bolt Chevy, is there an indentation in the face of the side gears where the c-clips went? Or are the side gears flat? Either way, if it's not what the seller claims it is, either he mistakedly sent you the wrong thing, or screwed you from the get go, or just doesn't know what he's talking about. You should be able to get a part number off the ring gear, even if it's aftermarket, and check with DTS or Randy's to find out what gear it is. The carrier should have some numbering on it too, but the ring gear would be the easiest. My vote is for GM 12 bolt, either car or truck, maybe GM 10-bolt, they all use crush sleeves.

If it accepts 30 spline axles, it could be:
Dana 60
Dana 44
Toy 8"
GM 12-bolt
Toy LC
Mopar 8.75"

I can't think of anything else offhand that's 30 spline.

The 60 and the 44 didn't use crush collars on any gears I've ever seen, at least not in standard-cut gears. RC60's use crush collars.

The Toyota gears use crush collars.

I don't think I've ever messed with a 12-bolt except to remove it. The Mopar 8.75" is a third-member diff, and should be very difficult to confuse with a Dana 44... but I dunno. I'm with 4Bangler... either the seller is/was clueless, or he deliberately dumped his junk on ya by claiming it to be something it isn't.

If you have calipers and/or a tape measure, and can measure a few things, I can tell you if it matches D44 stuff that's the same spec...

Measure the carrier bearing OD, carrier bearing ID, the width of the whole thing (stand it on the floor on one bearing and tell me how tall it is), the height from the floor to the ring gear flange like I just described, and I'll measure those on a D44 to compare if you want.

10 bolt. See the center pin bolt? Dana diffs use a roll pin.

Ya got screwed. He should take it back.

Betcha it's a 10 bolt.

BTW, for D44 stuff on eBay, Rust2Gold has been really great to deal with.

Edit: reddwarf is right about the roll pin, I can get good pics tonite of a D44 carrier.

Yeah, I told him I thought it was a 10-bolt. I compared it to a known D44 carrier and it is about 3/4" wider from bearing face surfaces than the D44. I figured it was a 10-bolt because they look so much alike on the outer ends. The guy truly thinks it is a D44. I am gonna forward this thread to him to try to convince him.

If it's 30 spline, it's a 12-bolt, yeah, the cross-pin bolt is a good clue, how many bolts on the ring gear? Send that fawker back.

Not always. I took apart a Grand Cherokee D35 c-clip that used a bolt. Not relevant to this discussion, but an FYI.

'89 and up GM 10 bolts (Blazer, Jimmy, Suburban) are 30 spline also. I would bet that is what it is. A lot of people still think the late model GM trucks have Dana 44 fronts.

Thanks for the help. Hopefully the seller will see that he is wrong and DO THE RIGHT THING! I have tried to be understanding, but it is getting old. By the way, I did not want to bias this post so I did not give the information that there are GM part numbers on the carrier and ring gear!! I wanted to hear everyone's opinion to see if ya'll came to the same conclusion and you did.

Thanks.

Dude, you're being way to nice, look up the numbers, figure out what it is for sure (sounds like you already know) and send taht fawker back! If the seller is unwilling, report him to E-Bay and post a very negetive feedback on him. This kind of thing is why I won't buy stuff without seeing it first hand. If the seller has any integrety, he will take it back, maybe even pay the return shipping. I would hope that this is an honest mistake, but you never know, there's some real arseholes out there.
