Well after 3+ years and 30,000 miles its time to go gooseneck with camper.

Reason: Want to haul Polaris RZR behind jeep on trailer.....makes tongue
weight to lite.

I don't get it.....doesn't seem like there is enough length to fit a RZR on the back of that trailer behind the Jeep? So how will goosenecking the trailer help you fit that on there?

I could be totally wrong and apologize if I'm missing something...

You are correct
It will not fit right now. I'm going to add removable pods on the rear using reciever hitch style hookup that the out side wheels will fit on while parked sideway's on the trailer.

Backing the jeep up 18 inches puts the tounge weight at 300 pounds.
Also my new tj wheelbase is 7 inches longer than my old one and already contributed to a lighter tounge.

The RZR is about 1000 pounds as it sits.

Will not always take RZR just on some trips.....would like to attend KOH taking RZR for run around yet take jeep to wheel while there.

are you going to have to move the axles back to get back some tongue weight? having too little tongue weight on a gooseneck is better than a light tongue with a bumper pull but still aint good, right?

on the fabwork, looks awsome! definately lookin forward to more pics :smokin:

Lets do it

7 years ago that was styling....flames, iron cross I was a happy camper.
And that jeep is still out on the trails with new owner with that paint.
However all ways appreciate someone from that team pointing it out when I have crossed over:flipoff2:

The jeep in the picture is a new build only been out about 4 times...still working on what paint design will end up with.

There is 1500 lbs of weight in the gooseneck with around 200 pounds of old tongue cut off for total of 1300 net gain

I am real interested to see how you tie into the subframe. I see the channels going back, but can't tell how far and exactly where they go.

In this pic you can see the cross beam connecting the old tongue to the new outside frame rails. This thing is way stouter than it needs to be.....but in order to make it look clean and not an after thought had to over kill a little.

476744

Here is a pic of the bottom outside rails going back to frame...next pic will show completed outside beams....that is a piece of 8" channel boxing all the way back to original frame.

There are four frame rails running to front of trailer

476742
Not a very good angle but goes all the way to frame

476743

The 12" I-beam is overkill as well...but needed the depth for propane bottles(4) on top and tool box on bottom. Tool box had to be deep enough to hold baby weber grill

will get exact numbers when finished but should be around 14,000 with jeep, RZR, camper trailer, all full of fluids.

Are you going with tandem jacks or sticking with the 1 up front?

I saw a smoking sale on some hydro/electric jacks somewhere just like I have on mine but I can't find the link anywhere. My dad wanted to add a pair to his trailer instead of the old hand crank version.

Hydro electric is the mack daddy set up. My buddy switched to them on his 25' GN and what a difference it makes.

Yup, I even started to use the jacks on the trailer to lift my slider 5th wheel hitch out of the truck. Works like a charm.

The only problem I have with mine is that they installed them pretty low, I've thought about rewelding them a couple inches higher because if the pads on the jacks sometimes drag when I cross railroad tracks and things like that. They'll extend way past where I would ever need, I can put the ass end of the trailer on the ground in a flat parking lot before they max out lifting.

OK...Finally finished front.......I like the way it turned out, looks like it has always been a gooseneck.

Anyway....Tony and Vernon decided to give my camper a coat of wax while I retro fit his gooseneck to fit 4 propane bottles. It was a good trade off they could not lift their arms above their head when they were finished

The wax made mine look new, amazing what a little maintenance will do, and on Tony's with his bottles done the installation of reflector tape is all his needed to be finished. Did not get any pics of Tony's but it is looking good, he will post pics of his later.

Tony's is the camper with the Tundra pulling it in previous post

Do you have a 7 round lighting cord that you can unhook on both ends? :smokin:

Yep....don't have a 8 way in the bed of truck so installed 8 way in toolbox temporarily until I take time to do truck and will reroute and just leave the 8-way in the tool box.

I had a double ended cord that works perfect for now.

That's pretty damn cool, I never thought about doing that and I hate having that cord hanging when it's parked. :smokin: I'm looking at insulating the floor above the 5th wheel loft in mine, I guess I could mount myself a jack around there somewhere.

Thanks.....Did not need that much propane but is nice to have more than you need vs. the alternative. These are weights I got last week:

Truck, Trailer, and Jeep weights

Truck, Trailer, and Jeep full of fluids 23,500
gas, water, propane on trailer all full
jeep full gas
dodge full of diesel

Truck, Trailer, and Jeep with front truck tires off scale 19,000

Front truck axle loaded 4,500
Rear truck axle loaded 6,120

Truck 9,000

Trailer 10,000

Jeep 4,500

Trailer and Jeep tongue weight 1,640

Trailer tongue weight empty 2,420

Trailer and Jeep…trailer axle weight 12,880

Jeep

Front axle 2,480

LF 1,200
RF 1,320

Rear axle 1,960

LR 1,080
RR 900

The only weight I did not get was the tongue weight with the jeep pulled all the way forward on the trailer.......jeep was sitting about 18inches back from most forward spot

Also, I'm interested in the specs on the Toyota's trailer too.

Thanks

DRW would be better...but I don't worry about it I never have liked DRW trucks.....it pulls good with about 3K on each tire, under tire specs that I think are around 3300lbs each.

I took a few pics of Tony's. The trailer started out as a 30 foot wood deck Kaufman with a few add ons: Torque tube, tool box, spare tire rack, 7k axles both have brakes, double jacks, and rear ramp pockets.

Camper is 15 feet long, it has a propane onan under the deck with 4 propane bottles in tongue.
